ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

The revival of the classic sitcom was set to air a 13-episode eleventh season this fall. The move represents a remarkable turn of events for the network, Barr, and a show that finished the season as the No. 1 scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen live-plus-same say numbers.

Just two weeks ago at ABC’s upfront presentation, Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, joking that he was “the guy responsible for most of my tweets.” Sherwood and Barr hugged onstage, and the the exec noted that ABC had not had television’s No. 1 show in 24 years. Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that 1 in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere.

More to come…

From what I heard another channel snapped up Last Man Standing, and the reason behind the canceling was due to the politics of the star and the way it was portrayed in the show.
If it was politics, then why was ABC so gung-ho about having Roseanne back on the air despite her views being even more hardcore than Tim Allen's?

Wow, ABC just really doesn't care about their ratings. Welp, Fox should be picking it up any time now.

Still waiting for when these shows just permanently move to Netflix, Hulu, or Prime or whatever and just let TV die.

How high on MAGA fumes must you be to think you can compare a nignog to The Planet of The Apes on a public platform and still keep a show on a mainstream tv network?
Roseanne is not new to the game. I wager this was being her crude self but an inkling my mind wonders if 4d chess to get released?

Granted I'm being :optimistic:

Wait so the show with a gender fluid character, interracial marriage and employed lesbians, bisexuals, and african americans is cancelled and liberals are celebrating.....

Wrong move btw. It was a decent revival and made a shit ton of money.

The ratings were pretty good. Someone will pick it up. Regular TV or Streaming.

I'd be the first to be pissed if this was entirely politically motivated, but it should go without saying that you probs shouldn't call black people apes in public if you want to keep your show on air.

The ratings weren't just good, they were stellar. It was like the no. 1 scripted show on television, an absolute smash hit that certainly has inspired (along with Will and Grace) all the big networks to look through their back catalogues to see what they can revive, like the upcoming Murphy Brown return.

So them canceling it outright after one tweet is actually a little surprising, as you'd expect them to give her a second chance. But I think after Wanda Sykes left the show over the tweet they realised they couldn't really do that, especially nowadays when allowing second chances is regarded so poorly.

Roseanne is the quintessential /r/the_donald boomer lady who's weirdly cognizant of /pol/ shit but too oblivious to hide their power level on social media. It's weird that the show lasted this long. She's been a liability to the production from the start.

Like when Gilbert Godfrey mocked japan's hurricane. Dude has made jokes about anally fisting babies but he's OK he did a Disney movie!

He lost his aflac sponsorship because of that tweet, and was blacklisted from Howard Stern for another reason. There's not a double standard for comedians when it comes to corporate money, if that's what you were getting at.
