Depending on how you spin it, Eron is either an example of "NOT YOUR PERSONAL ARMY" gone terribly awry or he simply threw something out there about someone who had wronged him and was not able to see how far-reaching this thing would reach. All things considered, Zoe is kind of a piece of shit and her friends (Phil Fish & Co) are massive pieces of shit. Eron seems kinda whiny and that laundry list of grievances was pretty cringeworthy but at the same time the whole "she banged 5 guys" remark led to people blowing the lid off of massive corruption in the industry.
It's safe to say all parties involved are kinda crappy, some less than others. Honestly even if Eron is LOLcow material I think he should get a bye for helping the industry, even if it was entirely unintentional.
I think it's the latter. He did accuse Zoe of sleeping for reviews when there is no evidence of that even happening. On the other hand, Zoe made this problem worse by not telling the whole truth.
Helping the industry aside, this whole thing is a giant mess of who said what.

IIRC, there's an entry fee to compete. It's like $100. It's more embezzlement of money rather than racketeering because they lied to folks about winning a cash prize for their game and instead gave preferential treatment to their friends. Even if the goverment took them to court over this, with the evidence we have now, they probably might get a few years behind bars, at max. There's really nothing to connect these folks with any wrong doing, ie there isn't any evidence of intent. A good lawyer would use this.
If evidence comes out (conversations / phone calls) that prove they were going to crown their friends winners from the start and ignore the rest of the competition, they're fucked.

I'm reading more about this and Eron (the ex-boyfriend) seems like more of a LOLcow as time goes on. HE'S the one acting like the victim here.

He has a bone to pick but the initial info he gave could be verified. The guy is obviously kind of.. different just by the fact he let someone cheat on him repeatedly but he hasn't been a real figurehead in all of this. From the chat logs he tried to give his opinion on how the best way to use the information would be but his only power is when he has relevant information that can be backed up. If he became too difficult or tried to control things I'm pretty sure /v/ would have said "Fuck off. You gave us the catalyst. That's all we needed"

Okay. Watching the video Green Puddin' just posted made rethink things. I am still against the harassment, but the IGF scandal is news to me. That's terrible ethics and people should protest that instead of whatever Quinn's doing. She IS a catalyst, but that ship has sailed. I'm still wondering about the guy who claimed Zoe Quinn attacked him at a wedding. Does anyone have a link to that?

I agree with mst3kluv, they should turn their attention to IGF. If I were on the other side I would be emphasizing that this is only about sex. Yes, there are serious ethical issues with reporters getting intimate with their subject without disclosure, but this is a much bigger fish to fry.

I don't know if being a dude who's figured out he's been cheated on makes you "different", even if he did try to work things out, overlook someone else's insanity, and continued to speak to her. Love is love, man. Love is stupid and all-consuming and makes you do and believe and ignore dumb things. I think that the only people IMMUNE to that are "different".

If the people responsible for all these shifty things in the indie scene were outed to the point where it'd be difficult for anyone of importance to deny it then I could only see good things happening. The next generation of indie folk would be held by a better standard, knowing what not to do. The few that go on to major things in mainstream gaming could carry those practices with them. Right now a group seems to exist that only supports those in their circle. So for every mediocre or shitty game they make sure wins an award or gets a ton of coverage they're pushing away someone else who made an actual damn good game but got the shaft because they were more concerned with quality than schmoozing in dive bars while tweeting.
