No, I was talking to a friend trying to convince them not to kill themselves but I thought it would be a massive violation of their autonomy to turn them over to the police. I'm still not sure what the correct answer is, there. If both people are adults, and one person wants to commit suicide, do you have a right to remove that person's autonomy and forcibly "commit" them to an institution to prevent them from taking their own life?

He should be encouraged to engage actual debate specialists and not podcasting amateurs; if it's anything like when he plays video games, he'll be so demoralized playing against someone ranked that knows what they're doing that he'll finally give up debating completely and move on to something new, like when the Starcraft 2 scene chewed him up and shat him out.

Then we'll get one final gasp of rationalizations, "well college debate time limits are too restricting to get my thoughts & evidence out, the moderators weren't allowing my particular style to fully activate, this events coordinators sabotaged me & the event wasn't held in good faith, etc." and we can move on to Destiny® aggressive toy train scenery modelling & track reviews.
