Well that's a new one. I wonder if people aren't talking about this because they literally just made this shit up because DRUMPF!

EDIT: I did do some digging about "sleepy eyes" being an anti-Semitic identifier but all I've found are recent Twatter screeching and that one of the Jewish identifiers from the Reich was "thick, heavy eyelids that look deceitful". So yeah people are stretching here. Also Chuck really does look like he is dozing off all the time.

He's been calling Chuck Todd "Sleepy Eyes" since 2012, and it's always confused people because he's also intentionally never made much of an effort to explain it. Unsurprisingly, that's not actually an anti-Semitic slur, but it is a derogatory statement. It's just one that's so fucking obscure that to flesh it out is to essentially admit that you're older than dust, but luckily, I don't care if anyone knows I'm ancient and boring, so get ready to learn something entirely useless:

Chuck Todd used to have a decent head of hair, and, like Trump, he took a lot of pride in it. Somewhere along the line, just in time for he and Trump to get into slapping tournaments over Twitter, male-pattern baldness began to rear its gleaming, hairless head against Todd, and in an effort to disguise the steady decline of his hairline, he began to comb it forwards, to rather ridiculous effect. People made comment after comment about his hair, and it never failed to get Todd riled up and irritated.

It's no secret that Donald Trump is a fan of cinema--just look at how often he shows up in movies--and he's particularly fond of older action movies like Bloodsport, Dirty Harry, etc. It just so happens that a series of novels called "The Sleepy Eyes of Death" were made into movies in the early to late 1960s, and became something of a cult classic. They centered around a ronin--Nemuri Kyoshiro--who was portrayed in both the movies and the books as a cynical, mostly well-meaning jackass, living in a world rife with corruption and full of backstabbers. They also called him Sleepy-Eyes.

In the movies, Nemuri was played by an actor by the name of Raizo Ichikawa who, for the role in the film, adopted awful, forward-combed hair. That's why nobody's talking about what the insult even means and why they're just throwing (((explanations))) at the wall, because it's so goddamned obscure and dated that no reporter under the age of 60 or without some facet of knowledge when it comes to "cult classic" samurai movies would even be able to fathom what the Hell he was going on about.

Besides that, the actual, genuine Nazi description for Jewish eyes is "wary and piercing" (source) not sleepy. All Trump is doing is calling him a cynical jerk with terrible hair.

Beat me to it.

But yeah, the reason nobody's talking about it is because it's, well, just your imagination? Maybe?

"Why is nobody panicking about an interpretation only I made?!!!!!!"

Geeze, how hard a concept is this people?

I think Scott Adams put it best when he described it as two people watching different movies on the same screen. A reasonably large portion of America reads Trump's tweets and thinks it's all 5D underwater hyper-chess, another portion thinks he's just shitposting for laughs, and another portion thinks he's one big mac away from opening up the internment camps. All from the exact same message. Imagine if people got this different of meanings from reading the same book or something. Politics is a hell of a drug.

If these doofuses tried that in Turkey.... I wish they did. They would know what a dicatatorship actually feels like.

The irony is that these assholes don't appreciate that if Trump is such a corrupt incarnation of evil, the fact they can get away with that means he's not half as powerful as they feel he is.

In fact, I remain perfectly confident they don't realize the same laws that protect Trump being an artless jackass are the same laws that protect them for bitching about him doing just that.

The only difference between the two parties is that at least Trump doesn't have delusions being an asshole makes him a badass.
