Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are lampooning new security measures that require them to use clear backpacks. The rule change took effect Monday as students returned to campus after spring break.

The school, located in Parkland, Florida, implemented the measure after 17 people were killed there in a shooting in February. Students and staff members are also being issued identification badges to be worn at all times, BuzzFeed News reports. Stoneman Douglas families were informed of the new rules in a letter from superintendent of Broward County Public Schools Robert Runcie, The New York Timesreported last month.

The district is also considering "using metal-detecting wands and installing permanent metal detectors," BuzzFeed News reported last month. The New York Times described the new rules as "reminiscent of security measures at airports and professional sports venues."

Stoneman Douglas students voiced their criticism of the rule — along with a healthy dose of sarcasm — Monday on Twitter.

The backpack and identification rules were announced days after the suspected shooter's brother trespassed on school property and two Stoneman Douglas students were arrested for bringing knives to school, BuzzFeed News noted.

I don’t know what they teach at that school, but I’m pretty certain it isn’t Faust.

I suggest they get a sheriff's department that isn't full of incompetent pussies that basically caused the shooting by doing nothing before and during. That might help.

What a bunch of whiny cunts, this shit has been going on for years in smaller schools I don't know why people are making a fuss over it now. I've seen plenty of clear back packs and doorways kitted out with full body metal detectors, I don't know how much good it'll actually do against somebody who plans to shoot up a school though. I still think they should have more armed security officers at schools.

The stupidest measure.

What happens when someone brings in a normal bag, and when he gets asked to open it, he pulls out a gun and starts shooting? Wouldn't matter much in many school shooter scenarios.

I find it deliciously ironic that the same kids who want to remove your 2nd Amendment are complaining that clear backpacks are a violation of their 4th.

Like you wouldn't deprive us of that in a heartbeat, too. Hypocrites.

Depends on what kind of contingency plans are in place and how prepared the security staff is. If someone standing right in front of you starts pulling a rifle out of their back pack and you outnumber them it’s not exactly gonna be hard to stop them. Odds are they’re not exactly gonna be dealing with a Ben Garrison type who’s as quick on the draw as he is deathly accurate.

- "We want more safety measures and gun bans so this never happens again!"
- "Clear backpacks are a violation of muh constitutional rights!"

Can't have your cake and eat it too, kids.

Yeah, the full body metal detectors are mostly in those sort of end of the road schools where it's mostly kids who flunked out or where expelled but those clear back packs have been a growing trend for a while. You've always got some dumbass trying to sell weed or bringing alcohol to school and then they roll in the clear bags.

Pointless security theater and it's failing to do even that correctly. We all know this horseshit is a joke. School shooters have known the way to work around metal detectors and bag checks for over 20 years. Pull the fire alarm.

The following morning, the boys drove in the van to Westside Middle School. As they arrived, Golden pulled the fire alarm while Johnson took the weapons to the woods outside of the school. Golden then ran back to the woods where Johnson had taken the weapons. When children and teachers filed out of the school, the two boys opened fire.

It sounds plausible. Especially to some edgy teen who thinks it makes them look cool just like in the movies.

The Sheriff’s department did far worse than nothing. They actively erased warning signs and crimes in order to scam the Federal Government out of Obama’s idiotic extra funding for reducing the “school to prison” pipeline. Because there is no chance that the kid shooting neighborhood pets is going to start shooting people next. No chance at all. I mean there is no way that can be viewed as any sort well established of indicator or anything...

LOL where I live they just put up signs on the schools letting you know that teachers are allowed to carry firearms so if you come in with ill intent expect the on duty police resource officer to cuff you after a teacher or administrator mag dumps on you

Every day we get closer to eventually just having all schooling done at home online. Can't really shoot up a school unless you're planning to go to every student's house.
I've taken both in person and distance courses in both highschool and college settings. Distance learning fucking sucks. You need a very particular student profile for it to work – independent, self motivated, computer savvy, and hands-off. If any one of those things isn't present the student is going to be severely hobbled. You also lack a lot of the in-class discussions that lead to a deeper understanding than rote memorization. It's generally a shitshow.

>wants more security
>complains about security

......We could always give Cruz another gun, if that's what they want. :sighduck:

Gamble with other peoples freedom and you risk losing your own.
