Culture Twitter will monitor your activity off site

Kerry Flynn dijo:
Twitter is cracking down on hate speech and not just by looking at its own site.

In what amounts to a major shift in Twitter policy, the company announced on Friday that it will be monitoring user's behavior "on and off the platform" and will suspend a user's account if they affiliate with violent organizations, according to an update to Twitter's Help Center on Friday.

"You also may not affiliate with organizations that — whether by their own statements or activity both on and off the platform — use or promote violence against civilians to further their causes," the update reads.

Twitter isn't taking action immediately. Rather, it's given users until December 18, 2017 when it will then begin enforcing the rule. The month-long wait is due to regulations in the European Union that require companies to inform users of a new policy change 30 days prior to enforcement.

The Dec. 18 deadline also applies to using "hateful images or symbols" in profile images or profile headers. Twitter will also monitor for hate speech in usernames, display names, and profile bios.

This new rule closes a loophole that Twitter's critics had long pointed out: That known white supremacists and others affiliated with hate groups could still use the platform to send a sanitized version of their message and use their followers to bolster their overall profile.

It's unclear how exactly Twitter will prioritize taking action and how much will come from user reports versus its own monitoring.

"The updates to the rules today will be enforced starting December 18. We'll also have more details on these policies to share that day," a Twitter spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement.

These changes comes amid aggressive moves by Twitter to curb abuse and harassment on the site after more than a decade of essentially letting the abusers operate freely.

Over the last week, Twitter has taken action against the accounts of white supremacists. Twitter permanently banned Tim "Treadstone" Gionet, a prominent alt-right troll more widely known as Baked Alaska, earlier this week. It also removed the verification badges of Jason Kessler, one of the organizers of the racist Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, and of alt-right activist Richard Spencer.

Twitter's decision to monitor users off site sparked concern from free speech advocates such as Andrew Torba, founder of social network Gab. "This is a scary precedent to set," he wrote in an email to Mashable. "Rules like this will only force dissidents and those who are speaking truth to power to silence themselves or risk being silenced by Twitter."

You get all that? Big bro Twitter is gonna follow you everywhere you go on the internet, spy on your offsite activity and catalog all of it, literally looking for a reason to ban you.

Smithers, release the :epik::epik::epik::epik::epik::epik::epik:

So even if all that white supremacist does is tweet mundane stuff like where he ate lunch today he can still be blocked for what he did elsewhere. What's to stop Twitter from tightening the noose more and more then? In a world where a makeup removal app=rape I cannot imagine this going anywhere good.

They shouldn't be tracking what you do elsewhere to determine the rules you are breaking on Twitter. That's like me getting banned from Rite Aid for something I did in Walmart. It doesn't make any sense and in general people don't like being tracked online.
This is exactly what they're talking about.

They will track you through the internet and based on that will determine if you are able to use their service. It's fucked up. If they want to say, "hey, I don't like what you're saying on Twatter" and ban your account that's one thing. But if all you're doing is documenting your day meanwhile you're posting racist memes on some site they will say, "we don't like what you're doing on this other site that has no connection to us so we're banning your account."

How does that affect Twatter? It doesn't. They're overstepping their boundaries.

Reminds me of something a cow said in regards to us. It's not about affecting the site or even upholding their rules, it's more about sending the message that people with certain ideas are not welcome.

This is just the result of another hissyfit by shareholders. Lemmie tell you a story.

Once upon a time, there was a shitty Facebook wannabe called Twitter. It was popular, but had terrible, unsustainable income strategies. It lost money constantly and almost went bankrupt.

But somehow, the Twitter executives convinced a bunch of very stupid investors that this was "just growing pains" and that Twitter would grow into a goldmine.

In what most financial minds would call a stupid decision, these investors banded together and bought Twitter, an unprofitable company that was bleeding money, for over a billion dollars.

But to these investor's shock, Twitter kept hemorrhaging money. The investors realized the terrible truth: not only had they bought a money-sink, they HILARIOUSLY over-valued it.

In desperation, and while drooling over Tumblr and Patreon's income, they somehow reached the same conclusion as Marvel Comics. They were only failing because of those danged alt-righters scaring off the obviously rich 'woke' crowd. Once they got enough progressive white guys, transtrenders, and SJWs, those sweet SJW cash waves would come rolling in!

So they put in rules about "Hate speech" to get rid of alt-righters. But those dang dirty alt-righters obeyed the rules! And worse, a bunch of totally woke allies got banned for their "Kill Whitey!" posts!

So they tried giving out blue checkmarks to appropriately woke users. But so many people got them that they became pointless. And worse, those dang alt-righters got checkmarks! So they stopped that.

So here we are. The stockholders are seeing huge pushback against their progressive stuff, their stock is slowly pulling out of it's nosedive due to people reading DRUMPHs stuff, and they still don't have those SJW bucks!

So they're gonna take the nuclear option and start outright banning those dang alt-righters! And better yet, they'll use their woke users to sniff them out! If a loyal SJW sends in proof of one of those alt-righters on their nazi sites, we can ban them without doing any investogative legwork ourselves!

What could go wrong? It's not like /pol/ is chomping at the bit to false-flag SJWs, advertisers will start bailing when mass-bans start, and everyone (Including normies) will start using adblocking and anti-tracking apps, further killing ad revenue, right?

You're definitely safe to be as racist, sexist, and homophobic as long as you're either a minority on US terms or a Scientologist

Someone keeps greenlighting these decisions. If I didn't know better I'd swear it was one of us.

Twitter is becoming a.i experiment central. What happens when there nothing but bots and they talk only to each other?
They'll use it as a skunkworks to create bots capable of convincingly infecting other sites for advertising and moralizing purposes.

Not the current twitter stockholders, they'll all have jumped off the golden gate bridge by this point. Whoever can put on hazmat suits and scavenge the ashes, I mean.

I will now demonstrate how to make this entire concept fail in one short post:

1. Create a parody account of an existing Social Justice asshat online. Get as close to their Twitter username as possible.
2. Have said parody account create a Medium about how they secretly think the Armenian Genocide never happened. Bonus points if you use their own talking points or ideas against them.
3. Using Egg account, report your own post to the Twitter Gestapo and elucidate that you have caught some prominent SocJus faggot in wrongthink.
4. Laugh as your target is inevitably investigated by the Twitter Schutzstaffel and potentially banned.
5. Rinse, repeat.

Any fucking moron can abuse this with ease. It's destined to not only fail, but fuck up with the force of a nuclear device.

Your plan fails at point 1.
The purpose is not for Twitter to uphold their own rules, but to punish wrongthink, so a SJW won't get punished no matter what shit you find on them, real or framed.
They don't punish them now when you catch them out breaking the rules on twitter itself, they're not going to start when someone finds offsite shit.

The only way you could frame someone is if they were a dirty conservative, in which case their days were numbered anyway.

You seem to not realize just how fast they are to eat their own. Need I remind you that all of 9_VOLT's buddies immediately turned on him on the mere mention he was a sex pest? Even though the accusation came from someone their own ideology has labelled haram, they still all went fangs out against the guy.

That's not a unique occurence. Especially if you were to say, target Male Feminists with the tactic I listed above, because 99% of the ones we cover apparently turn out to be horrifying sexual deviants.

It is, however, kind of funny you mention Twitter's rules, though: Punishing regressive leftists for breaking their own rules has been something happening a fucking lot lately. You can check out the Nora Reed thread, for example, or Wesley, but the short version is that increasingly the Rat King subforum occupants are increasingly eating temp or permabans over their deranged antisocial behavior. Their whole "it's OK to harass people if we call them TERFs" angle seems to be heavily to blame for this, and it's hilarious to see them get eaten by the beast they created. Nora was banned for two weeks recently; Laurelai got his account shut down and is now spewing his drivel from one of his alts.

All this is only going to do three things: Make Twitter bleed harder, give trolls entertaining new avenues to fuck with people, and give us something fucking fascinating to watch happen in real time.

You might take down a few low-level male feminists but for every one you expose as a sexual predator, two more pop up to fill the gap.
You won't find twitter punishing anyone famous from the left, even if they are caught with their dick in a brown female toddler, burning the koran and force feeding bacon to a rapefugee

So they got suspended or banned for being insufferable twats and actually harassing people vs how many people on the other side that got it just because they don't like their opinions or god forbid disagreed with Brianna Wu @GethN7? And how many reports did it take for any of this to happen?
