Star Wars Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Salt - 40 hours to get Vader

EA dijo:
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

This part made me laugh, to be honest, because the original Battlefront II (Y'know, the good one) did the same thing, by making the Hero character a reward for the best player on each team. You got that sense of pride and accomplishment from knowing that you are the best player in that battle, and your reward is a murder-machine character who will probably just get pied in the face with an anti-tank mine and killed instantly, because Battlefront II's online consisted mainly of people throwing mines at each other's heads.

Instead, EA's BF2 demands an amount of grinding that only whales will be able to achieve at a decent rate, and the reward will be a hero who, let's be honest, is probably equally vulnerable to tank mines and dealing with the misfortune of being a melee-focused character in a game where sniper rifles exist.

I've never played any of these games, so forgive me if this is an obvious point, but are you saying you could unlock a character and have them killed instantly and then you'd have to work to unlock the character again? Is that why this is a big deal because it's like grinding for 40 hours for the equivalent of a one use item?

So, apparently people are really pissed with EA again over how they're monetizing their newest game.

Most downrated post in reddit's history by an order of magnitude.
Apparently, the game awards in-game currency based on time played and some sperg worked out that it would take around 40 hours to get enough to unlock Darth Vader, a character that was baseline in the first game. Please post any salt you find here.
I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in Games, but I thought there would be enough rage and salt.

People still buying games from EA

AAHAHAHAHA

The big difference between Classic Battlefront and modern Battlefront is that in order to unlock a hero in the classic games, you needed to simply play well until the notification appeared, then you could temporarily play as the hero for the match as long as you stayed alive, plus all the heroes in the game are entirely free. Apparently modern Battlefront is expecting you to put in a lot of time and effort just to unlock one hero normally with currency, just so you can have the chance of playing as them in game.

Also in Modern Battlefront, it's possible to be temporarily locked out of earning credits through arcade mode via playing too much.

Última edición:
If the game sucks so hard that you don't have 40 hours played in it alrewdy, and for you unlocking heroes is a slog because the game simply is too boring, maybe the problem isn't the high cost of heroes?

People did the math already and to get everything unlocked it would cost appoximately $2100. This is in the off chance you do not get any dupes. Have fun guys!

As sanctimonious and obnoxiously dumb as gamers are, it sounds like a lot of them are fucking coming to terms with how2consumer. I'm hearing of lots of pre-order cancellations.

It's a good step, at the very least.

Yes.

EA could not shit out a fuck to give about an ass-blasted fan, but hurt them in their wallet? They will listen then. Probably.

That's the case with all publishers. People can bitch, but if they're paying they do not care.

Developers, more often than not, do care. But, they get restricted by what the publisher wants.

This model is awfully close to that of a mobile gacha game. But even mobile gavha games know not to ask the stooges for 85 quid upfront for the chamce to play the gacha.

So apparently some guy was such an EA fanboy he faked being a QA monkey for the last two years and defended everything the company did. With all the bullshit surrounding Battlefront lately he tweeted this:

The tweet got a lot of attention from a bunch of clickbait sites as proof that "gamers are scum" and all that. Kotaku's Jason Schreier decided to try to interview the guy to spread the narrative and ended up accidentally doing actual journalism for once: https://kotaku.com/the-curious-case-of-the-ea-game-dev-who-said-he-receive-1820474458

It really does seem like EA is worried at the huge dumping of pre-orders.

However

Those are customers who already spend quite a premium on games. What will be telling is figures after release.
They'll still earn alot of money though, according to some sources, the 2015 battlefront solld 14 million copies, so it's not like they should really worry considering how much they get.
