I just meant replacing the constitutional court and the president. Not that he suddenly started building 50 stadiums per village, cool your clitty.
1. He didn't replace the constitutional court, he replaced 1 judge so far (Hende) with another one (Sonnevend). Polt isn't out til September so the President [of the Constitutional Court] hasn't been replaced either.
2. Sonnevend: FIDESZ accepted his nomination as a judge, but found his seat illegitimate due to Hende according to them being ousted unconstitutionally. Despite this, from what I've seen in the interviews every FIDESZ MP gave on the topic the official party line is that they have great respect for Sonnevend as an independent and strong jurist/academic and would otherwise support his nomination if it wasn't for the circumstances. Schiffer, MH's nominee (lol, a far right party nominating a capital J Jewish marxist tankie literally simping for North Korea)
[American analogy for Schiffer: Imagine if it wasn't just the President but the Senate being able to nominate for the Supreme Court seats. The Patriot Front gets third party Senate seats and unironically nominates Cornel West to be a supreme court judge] also praised Sonnevend during his hearing despite beinga rival nominee at that point. Sonnevend has zero ties to TISZA, Magyar, or Melléthei apart from being nominated by them and is apparently supported by the two parties accounting for 97% of the parliament seats, and by proxy the third one through their respective nominee supporting Sonnevend.
3. Hende: You might not remember but Hende isn't exactly legitimate either.
3A: He doesn't pass the 'independent' smell check - was a FIDESZ MP from 2004 to 2025. He was Orbán's defence minister from 2010 to 2015 and then deputy speaker. He was literally a sitting FIDESZ MP all the way until June last year when FIDESZ elected him as a totally independent protector of the constitution, I'm sure that's just what he did and what he was going to do for the next
11 fucking years if left unbothered.
[For any Americans who got this far; this is the equivalent of Trump appointing a former defense secretary and sitting senior Republican congressman to the Supreme Court who has no real judicial experience but Trump says it's ok because being a congressman is about judging things so good enough. ]
3B: There are multiple statutory requirements of serving as a judge on the Constitutional Court in Hungary. One of them is having 20 years of professional legal practice. Although Hende has a law degree, he was only officially practicing law as a qualified lawyer for 10 years, FIDESZ argued that him being an MP meant he 'worked' with the law, and ignoring this requirement pushed him on to be a judge. Doesn't seem very legitimate to me either, I'd argue it's factually less constitutional than what was done to oust him in order to clean the FIDESZ deepstate leviathan out.
Let's resume the conversation in September, maybe only the first nominee was a truly strong one and when the next 4 seats become vacant and he fills them up with his cousins and MPs you have a point, until then not even close.
