@God of Nothing
I am downloading H4 solo and multi to test if Steam is fucked and it seems fine on my end(France). I also downloaded a few mods from the workshop yesterday with no problems.

The game is not on my main drive too and it works fine(I just started it).

Your download fucked up at what point ? Only in the Download section of Steam ? Or is it something in the menu of the MCC ? I ask this because I know I had to uninstal all games by using the in-game options and by cleaning the files on my SSD twice.

The thing about "strong female characters" is that women are simply not strong in comparison with men. If you start with the goal of making your female characters "strong", they will just come off as overcompensating, low-quality men. Bungie's female characters weren't "strong", they were competent. Their competence was shown by them working together with their comrades to accomplish their goals. 343's women need to showcase their "strength" by kicking ass and mouthing off to the men around them for no reason.
TL;DR- There's no way to write "strong female characters" effectively, and people should stop trying. Write competent females instead.

Bungie already did the "hardass woman soldier who makes a noble (heh) sacrifice" thing 16 years ago and would have coincided with the same events. Ironically one that would leave Williams absolutely seething. You'll never top the Slavic Spartan queen, 343. Long live Noble 2.

Hell, I'll do you one better and include a character that didn't even have a model but was integral to Chief's success, Foehammer.

Her wise ass pilot archetype always takes precedence over being a woman. I don't think you'll find a Halo fan that shits on her character. She got us where we needed to be and did some pretty sketchy flying in the process.

I don't count the Marines in Halo 2 with the Michelle Rodriguez voice template, but shoutout to them too.

It's a problem when the enemies are all slower than you and you can herd them into a group that you can nuke with a plasma grenade, it also lets you be terrible at the game since you can just run away once your health bar drains. Original Halo forced you to develop expertise because you can't just flee the fight.
It's not just sprint. The covie and flood AIs are also nerfed and incredibly passive. The flood just kinda slowly shuffle themselves towards you ulike in CE where they would tard rush you the moment you left their melee range. The only minor issue with CE's combat philosophy was that the flood were mostly impervious to melee attacks and thus forced you to engage them solely by shooting at them. Plus there weren't many "melee-oriented" weapons in the sandbox that could work against them even if punching flood guys to death was an option.
I've no clue if something was lost in translation thanks to the engine change mid-dev but they just fundamentally butchered CE's near flawless combat loop in favor of the most bland and generic shoot alien guy until he dead loop.

Sprint just doesn't belong in Halo. Reach, 4, 5 and the demake (and infinite to a lesser extent) completely rape the original Halo gameplay loop all in the hopes of "oh well maybe 12 year olds who play CoD and fortnite religiously will get confused at the store and buy our game thinking it's another generic actionslop FPS shooter". There is a reason why T&H HalQ patriQts hate Halo games with sprint in them (reach, 4, 5, infinite, demake) meanwhile all of the cucked millennial CoDkiddie goycattle like the sprintslop.
I was skeptical at first but I actually am starting to believe that whole cutscene was directed, created and rigged by AI. I can't really explain it well but the whole scene just has that ChatGPT stink to it. The nonsensical movement, plasma bolts flying in random directions, none of the bipeds ACTUALLY moving around (HUGE red flag, AI notoriously doesn't understand kinematics), the prophet exposition dumping about the covenant, Chief and Johnson just doing nothing, the strange camera placement... It screams AI.

Oh, it was my bad, actually. I did a deep clean of my PC and fiddled with the power supply to it trying to get all the dust out. Seems to be working fine now after I switched slots and reinput everything. Sorry for the inconvenience.

People have forgotten that female characters are supposed to be, you know, female.

Exactly. If Reach were made by 343, Kat would have Jorge's strength, Emile's personality, and would command the respect that Carter did. The rest of the squad would be unremarkable and bland, and would strictly serve to highlight how freakin' BADASS Kat was.

She was the most vulnerable member of the team. Bionic replacement arm, visible scars, was shaken by the glassing, and ultimately killed when caught off guard. I still think female super soldiers are ridiculous, but there's a stark difference between that and man-faced literally fucking who talking down Space Jesus

The fact that the "diversity is our strength" cutscene ends with the brute beating the shit out of the other covenant members almost makes me believe that the actual point of the scene is that the covenant is a disfunctional shithole and the prophet is retarded.
I dunno Maybe im giving too much leeway to 343, not like it excuses how retarded the cartoon villain monologue scene itself is, or the ODST girlboss, or manjaw cortana, or the rest of this shit game im never playing.
But if this was done by a better studio i dont mind the "idea" of that scene (if that was actually the point they were trying to convey)

i remember all the book lore being retarded tryhard edgy shit
were the spartans always supposed to bully backwards peasant worlds?
why the fuck would you create a super soldier for that?
From what I remember, the Insurrectionists weren't one united thing and were more like separate terrorist/rebel cells that were in the outer colonies. Spartans were created after the UNSC and Insurrectionists started having more open conflict with each other, and you needed soldiers that could A. Fight as essentially a force multiplier on their own, and B. could be dropped behind enemy lines and absolutely fuck up everything in their way.

It's why ODSTs had their rivalry with the Spartans, since the Spartans essentially did what they were trained to do but better.

Slightly off-topic, but that was the original purpose for Thunder Warriors (later Space Marines) in Warhammer. I'd imagine some influence rubbed off, a lot of military sci-fi likes to riff off itself. It makes sense to have the Spartans serve as an enforcer class on colonies. They were created because the UNSC couldn't properly manage the insurrectionists prior to the war with the Covenant starting. It wasn't until Mark III armor and onward (I think?) that the purpose was shifted to fighting aliens instead of terrorists.

I've always considered the rivalry more like the type of banter and shit flinging you hear between different military branches. The prequel missions kind of blow it out of portion, considering she just had her ass saved from a Covenant rendition of The Most Dangerous Game. If I were in that position, I believe my first words would be "Fucking thank you". Why the fuck this scenario would be happening in the first place is beyond me, because the Covenant wouldn't even bother keeping humans alive considering they were antithetical to their entire belief. It's very mustache-twirling evil villian shit from modern hack writers.

That doesn't make any sense. This would be like creating a nuke to deal with a militia group. If rebel cells are that big, you have a civil war, not a bad case of the terroroids. What the fuck?

The Thunder Warriors were created because the Earth was a shithole and Big E couldn't do literally everything.

This is worse than edgy: it's retarded.

Currently playing Campaign Evolved on the third mission, Truth and Reconciliation. As far as first impressions go, I have to say that I do like it so far. While I do have some gripes with the game like the pointless voice lines recorded doing what a simple popup would have done, some design flaws and the case of Sgt. Johnson's new VA, it really isn't as bad as some would have you believe.

The big issue is the ODST is to similar to Spartans. They should of felt like the imperial guard to space marines but came off more like the imperial guard to tau.

They are powerful enough that the ODST shouldn't be reliant on Spartan support but plot wise it desperately is... it was a backfire from trying to represent humanity in a more realistic way... the issue with that is you have to scale up the covenant far beyond how its represented in game for that to work.

I know they felt like it in ODST because you had to play as them. Fucking great game though.

Wasn't for me but not a condemnation of the game really was a taste thing. There almost needs to be a warning on campaign select and a intro page in the books stating that the two are separate universes from each other.

Seeing the ODST in the game has you question how the covenant was even remotely successful in the novels and vice versa.

To be entirely fair, the impression your squad gives and your actual mission kept secret heavily implies you are the absolute best squad of ODST. To send otherwise would result in the extinction of humanity.

I do think that one squaddie surviving a brute axe was bullshit though
