But the employees will be the most retarded of the lowest rung ladder who will also get the highest wages possible for equity, and there will be next to no cops around for fear of "intimidation," theft will happen immediately, and you'll see these places start to immediately become dumping grounds for the near-expired or damaged goods. And then the mayor will blame the grocery suppliers for these failings, they will walk away or demand higher prices which defeats these savings.

B. It's more an issue with local bodegas and similar businesses. New York City doesn't have the stereotypical grocery store around the corner like most cities, and instead have small corner shops. There has already been some issues with bodegas complaining about some security door enforcement shit as well that has been on the books but only recently enforced by mamdani. Think the issue there is that the city made some bullshit that now small shops have to spend upwards of 10-20 grand on some custom bullshit doors. This is just another thing to stack onto those businesses eventually being put out of business

I don’t know that the stores will “fail” since they don’t have to worry about pesky profit margins like evil capitalists. most grocery stores run at about a 3% profit margin on most of their goods. What Mandami wants is to use tax payer money to drive all the other grocery stores out of New York. Because they will not be able to compete with a state funded chain who can lose money on every sale but still stay in business.

It's how China operates key industries overseas. The government funds the business until they bankrupt all the competition and so are now the only source of said product and thus have control over the industry and it's offshoots.
