Reputable striker fired guns have more robust safeties then hammer guns. Specifically for the use case of Every Day Carry, this is an important feature in a long list of superior features that make striker fired pistols a better choice.

fudds doing this song and dance always makes me laugh. some dude blew his nuts off with a gun that you literally cannot render safe with a bullet in the chamber dude what do you mean it has superior features that make it a better choice

glocks are safer FOR THE LEGAL ENTITY PROCURING THEM not for the person shooting them. the manual of arms is so basic with no discretion possible, if you don't do what you were trained to do you aren't doing it right and you can easily hold the people who trained them accountable for doing it wrong. if you've got 3 brain cells to rub together they're obviously not actually safer than a double action hammer fired pistol. they're mechanically more complex and have more safety mechanisms than a glock does, dude. a cz75 has a firing pin trigger block just like a glock does, it has a transfer bar for the hammer, a physical and inertial firing pin block, AND a physical switch that disconnects the trigger from the firing pin completely. you can cock the hammer all you want on that thang if you don't pull the trigger its not going off

I am putting so many qualifying words in my posts already, it is frustrating to have to clarify what I am saying.

1. Reputable striker fired pistols have flawless safety mechanisms in place. This doesn't mean hammer fired pistols don't.

2. For every day carry you have further considerations about fowling your gun because of debris or particles getting into your gun.

3. Assuming a quality firearm, the failure point for both actions is going to be the person or mechanical wear/breakage

4. Striker fired guns are more reslilient to mechanical wear and breakage.

5. All else being equal you should carry a striker fired for your EDC because it reduces the possibilities for the gun's mechanics failing.

Old guns are subject to lots of potential problems depending on who owned it last or how it was stored. While I defend the Trapdoor to my death as being a very safe action, unless you're also ready to get into reloading(which you should) I would go with something else.
Maybe get a new production Winchester lever action, Miroku does a great job.

Yeah I need to get into reloading lol I’m also very fortunate to have a local shop that carries all sorts of obscure calibers. At this point though I’m leaning more towards a musket and black powder though, I’m a sucker for the Napoleonic era

For a M&P, good gun at the price you got it. I'd skip the BAD lever.

Get a sling, hit the range and start running drills. Be sure to do your homework on the manual of arms!

I had a CZ-75 compact I carried fairly often until one time I went to the range, fired one round and the gun just stopped working after that.
Turns out the "Firing Pin Retaining Pin" broke after that initial shot, its a "wear item" and once it wears out (usually dry fire apparently, I didn't dry fire it but put about 2-3k rounds through it) the gun just doesn't work until you replace it. I was essentially carrying a 2 pound single shot brick for two weeks. Replaced the pin and sold it immediately.

That was good of you. I've treated many a recently purchased used firearm for prior seller bullshit.

Wear items are normal and fine within a certain shot count margin. Go check your gas rings and firing pins gents. Guns are machines and need maintence. (Some less then others like striker fired vs hammer fired pistols heuheuheu)

My main problem was the overall round count on the pistol was low, and what causes the pin to break was not something that I had done. Logically something similar could happen with my Glock 19, but man it was a bit terrifying to know that the pistol I had trusted my life with for a couple weeks would have just immediately shit itself if I actually needed to use it.

Meanwhile my Gen 3 19 has about 7500 rounds through it through 2 slides (4500 on the OEM and 3000 through an RXM slide + Glock barrel) with the only malfunctions being when I was dropping mags in the mud during a range day. I cleaned the striker and extractor channels at the 2500 mark on the RXM slide and the parts still looked pretty much new besides a large amount of fouling. I'll need to look up the replacement intervals for them.

I want to like the 75 and its variants but when the only way to not have this issue is to buy a Shadow 2, which doesn't have a retaining pin, I will not partake in the Czechnology.

All of this arguing... you all don't get it. If you're going to appendix carry you should only do so with a HK Mark 23. It has a manual safety for cocked and locked carry, but it also has a decocker and a DA trigger pull that is so heavy that you'd have to cram that mf into your temu holster like you're trying to break it to ND, and it's longer than your pants valuables so you would probably miss them if you did set it off. Plus it's a .45ACP manstopper, so if you do manage to blow your cock and balls off you won't have to worry about living without them.

I appendix carried A colt's navy .36 for a while when i would take woods walks. don't have a holster for it. with a 7 1/2 inch barrel though the only way to carry it was at such an angle so as if it went off (It can't) the ball go out my pocket area. no chance it can catch any meat.

today though I carried my .45. got atleast 10,000 rounds on this gun.
