Fallout series

With a fully-voiced protagonist, if you weren't stuck as Nate, you'd be stuck as some other predefined personality.
And that's true. Even with Nate.
You had 3 predefined personalities with him:
  • The caring ex-soldier one which prefers calming before escalate violence.
  • The violent ex-soldier one which prefers killing, assaulting, stealing and intimidating everyone.
  • The sarcastic ex-soldier one which near any situation is deal with jokes.
And i prefer the last one. The others are so generic IMO.

I'm too lazy to track it down but I remember someone official saying that Nate was actually one of the two soldiers in the Fallout 1 opening that executes that poor guy in the middle of the street, but then later that was retracted/retconned and I thought that was fucking gay. Nate being a war criminal is interesting.

That was Emil and he cucked at every step. First he said Nate was in the canadian execution scene but not the shooter, thus making Nate soy, then Emil turned into a corncob and claimed not everything that comes out of his retarded mouth should be taken as canon. Truly a wonderful and confident caretaker of nu-Fallout's writing. Or something like that, correct me if I'm off.

Nate being a no quarter leaf raking patriot would've been far more interesting than what we got

Which was nothing
That would've been kino but you know people would've gotten so offended if they went that route. Personally I would've made Nate the shooter AND made him a commie hating true 'murican!
Now that I think of it, that was a big missed opportunity if they were going to give Nate a character they should've used him (Or Nora too I guess.) to give glimpses into what things were like in America before the war through dialogue. A competent writer could've done some good shit with that. If nothing else having a comically patriotic protagonist would've been entertaining as hell.
Nate "Better dead than red" Norton (I just pulled a surname out of my ass.)

If Bethesda wanted a voiced protagonist they should have gone all the way and actually made Nate and Nora into fully fleshed out characters instead of a vague backstory + voice that you're stuck with no matter the kind of character you make. Instead in true Bethesda fashion they half assed it and managed to make the worst of both options.
Hell a Fallout spinoff game following an actual fleshed out protagonist might have been a cool idea at one point, and frankly would have been a better way of telling Fallout 4s mid ass story.

That's what the Fallout Amazon show is. It's a spinoff and linear story. It's the preferred new Fallout format for Bethesda fans. They don't want Fallout the videogame IP. They want Fallout the slop merchandise franchise with the occasional simple story where they don't have to play or think. They just watch and consume. They are judged for their fan prowess by how many t-shirts and funkopops they own. Not actually understanding lore or game history.

Is that retard humiliating himself now by showing he knows nothing about yet another franchise? Case and point from above.
No the dude is a retard who cant make up his mind on what i am and can't argue back. Kinda like you
That's exactly what's going to happen. Expect FNVR to be another one of Bethesda's gay-ass life simulators with essential NPC's, cut content, post-ending gameplay and fugly ass weapons, completely missing the point entirely of what made FNV intentionally - and unintentionally - great.
If it didn't happen with oblivion remastered its not gonna happen here. Stop being paranoid retards fearmongering over nothing just to get more paranoid
and giving you powered armor that doesn’t degrade
Oh no the horror, who gives a shit
Dont use it or mod the fix in
Plenty of games do this and still have a good main character.
How many of those games are open world rpgs?

Dragon Age 2 Hawke Effect strikes again, we need more shittalker personalities, i remember Deus Ex 1 because of that while the nu-deus exes don't let me do that even if they say the dialogue option sarcastic but the character sure as shit doesn't sound sarcastic.
A competent writer could've done some good shit with that.
brodie do you even remember we are talking about emil pagliacci? competency is not a word on that guy's dictionary.

I think its been said in this thread before that without Bethesda's rape of the IP, we would have never gotten New Vegas. And FNV is preferable to Van Buren, and I don't care what 30+homosexuals says, that game was going to suck and would have been the last entry in a franchise that would have been quickly forgotten.

On another note, I was thinking this morning about if F4's story could have been marginally better if the main character finds Nate in Diamond City looking for his son. You then go on a quest to help him find his son, but maybe in this version he's some Institute experiment instead of the leader.
Not that this fixes much, but the main quest is so retarded and so railroaded that I'd be happy with a change like this
van buren walked so that Fallout The Frontier could run

At least we can all agree the combat in this new obsidian fallout game won't be as bad as Brotherhood of Steels....yeesh.
Funnily enough, the combat itself isn't bad, it's the encounter design. The game is fucking BORING, but with properly designed enemies and more interesting levels/arenas, it could have been a decent dungeon crawler. The Baldur's Gate spinoffs running on the same engine were liked much better, so the potential is there. Instead, we get missions like "kill 30 radscorpions in a drab warehouse"(and if you miss one, you have to go back thru the entire level to hunt him down), or isometric platforming, the worst sin of all. It's clear the team didn't know how to make a game like this, they should have scrapped the entire thing and focused on finishing Van Buren instead, but that's Interplay for you. Not that anyone here would know since they didn't know what Fallout was when this game was new.
A big part of me wants to believe that with some original developers behind the wheel there is some chance they can make a good new title, especially with the worst faggots like Matt Hansen laid off.

But the reality is that this ideological rot and the need to implement Current-Dayism references runs deeper than just a handful of fundamentalist developers who shit the bed each time they do any work.

I think that even with the best intentions from these original devs, they will run into a lot of red tape that wasn't there before to make sure the game appeals to as many normies as possible.

I hope that I am completely wrong but my gut feeling tells me they just do not have the capabilities to get it done and Fallout NV remains that once in a lifetime lightning in a bottle project.
Some of the devs behind New Vegas worked on Outer Worlds and people hated that game. It ain't happening.
From my understanding New Vegas was basically the closest thing we got to Van Buren anyway considering how many concepts and characters they reused from Van Buren for the main game and the DLC.
(And the hypothetical Fallout 4 which was just a concept at the time they were developing Van Buren.)
New Vegas is indeed the planned Fallout 4 that Black Isle intended and the game treats Van Buren as if it's canon and already happened(even has recurring characters from that game like McLafferty). Still, some of the best content hasn't been as much as mentioned yet, such as Boulder Dome or BOMB satellite, Presper would have also been a fun villain since he was always one step ahead of the player, you literally had to get a space shuttle working and challenge him in space just to catch up to him. Shame that Nuevo Mexico was cancelled, it would have revived some of the concepts, like the Tibbets Prison and Reservation.

I'd hope its in a part of the country we've never seen before like say Texas, Orleans, the Midwest.

The realist in me says it'll be the most coattail ridding game. NV, or the whole west coast for that matter, doesn't need a sequel in any way shape or form.
Chicago with mobsters doing bootlegged nuka cola could be fun.
E: But modern Bethesda fucking sucks so it wouldn't be good.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but if you think Ulysses talking about the Bear and the Bull, just imagine how annoying it will be to explore a city full of people who won't shut up about the Bears and the Bulls. You'll have two gangs that act like knockoffs of the Kings: a gang of white guys who are all trying really hard to be Mike Ditka (but have no idea who he was) and a gang of black guys all trying really hard to be Michael Jordan (and also have no idea who he was).

I've grown to dislike the kind of worldbuilding in Fallout where areas just happens to copy historical events because historical references are funny.

Think back to the original fallout and that world is completely alien compared to actual Los Angeles.

It's far more interesting when you got roman LARPers popping up in the west because some guy read a book on the Romans.

It's also far more interesting when the environment shapes the emergingq culture. Like a gang that forms around controlling the Chicago L train network.
The canals overflowing as the city streets sink below the level of the lake. Making transportation by boat between city blocks essential downtown.
Lake pirates raiding downtown on speedboats.

It's this syndrome where you had Fallout Lomdon just having factions that were different sorts of british stereotypes
