UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Has there been any info released about that fucker who threw the little kid into the crocodile pit?
I read today the kids had 7 major operations and is still in a bad way but I haven't seen any details about the chucker.
No, the last I heard he wasn't being named or identified in the news because he's a vulnerable adult etc, etc. I think we can safely assume It's a nigger/brown variant who shouldn't be in this country, his carers were most likely imported too.

Funny thing is that there's been exactly zero drone terror attacks in Europe, and yet countless carbombs/stabbings/truck attacks/etc
Well you see here's the thing. We're exceptionally lucky we live in a time where technology is so advanced and Islamic hatred towards the West is so high yet every single fucking terrorist is a retard. A full room temperature retard. Their method of getting to muslim valhalla heaven is to just blindly walk up to someone and stab them and then walk up to someone else and stab them too.

An educated, technologically advanced group of terrorists would be the most terrifying thing to happen and every single day would be a game of praying before leaving the house, but therein lies the paradox. If you're smart enough to perform a horrific act of terror and get away with it... you're probably smart enough to NOT fall for the Islamic shit that would make you a terrorist in the first place. Most people capable of reading Spot The Dog are capable of realising that dying isn't a good thing.

It's genuine video calling mouth breathing tongue clicking spastics, and THIS is what the nation is meant to fear? This is why the terrorism level has been so high for years?

Are the negative attributes a lot of Americans apply to boomers prevalent in the UK? There's certainly bound to be some, but I feel like "boomerism" is more of an American phenomenon.
The main difference is American boomers grew up in an era of prosperity. The 1950s were a golden era for the US. Rationing didn't fully end in the UK until 1954, and as late as the 1960s a lot of British homes didn't have indoor toilets. Similar deal with fitted baths (hence the old tin bath - plumbed hot water didn't become standard until the late 60s, and a lot of that was from Ascot heaters). Central heating didn't properly catch on until the 1970s, you had coal or gas fires - your average urban American boomer will remember a childhood warm house, while a working class British urban boomer will remember frost on the inside of the widows and getting dressed under the blankets. Also our currency was tied to the value of the dollar under Bretton-Woods until the late 70s, which controlled how much our economy could grow without causing some sort of crisis, And we'd actually got bombed, so people were living in prefabs and there was a lot of rebuilding work going on, plus paying off war debts.

So for a lot of American boomers, they grew up in the best possible scenario, because they basically were funneling money in from all over the world. British boomers often had not so nice childhoods, at least until slum clearances got people into more modern council housing (about a third of people lived in council houses in the 1960s, compared to less than one in five now) and things generally got better when they were a bit more grown. Which feeds into my schizo theory about why American Christmas tends to be 1950s
and British Christmas tends to be 1970s
because it relates to when Boomers first enjoyed Christmas properly.

This makes an incredible amount of sense and I hadn't considered it before now. Adds an extra layer of irony to the Bowie/Crosby christmas duet, which always looked a bit awkward.

(And why why did they film it in Crinkley Bottom?)

Tell that to various vapid Millennials who've imported the, "ok boomer" without an instant's thought about what state the UK was actually in at that point.

Oxygen wastes.
