Unless you are really close I don't think you need a respirator for wildfire particulates.
We currently have government advice in place for one.. Basically no strenuous physical exertion outside (so Vicky's fine), if you're asthmatic or have another lung condition, do your normal management shit and keep inhalers etc on you (which is in every asthma plan anyway), keep windows shut and limit going outdoors. If it was so dangerous hospitals would get flooded or there'd be serious long term health consequences I think they'd go more extreme. It costs less to hand out respirators than for the NHS to treat any significant proportion of the > 2 million people in the smoke's path. The advice extends to places a significant distance from the fire which is a bit disconcerting but better safe than sorry I guess.
Anyway I mostly am posting to let the record stand that "harm reduction drinking" is a thing now. Its not an unhealthy coping mechanism, its harm reduction. Water if you're dehydrated is harm reduction drinking, IIRC the consensus about the good shit in red wine is that its outweighed by how awful alcohol is for you. I'm not moralising about booze, I enjoy a G&T or bougie lambic, Vicky can have whatever tipple she likes but framing it this way is irksome.
Does a power chair count as a vehicle for the purposes of DUI? I suppose it doesn't matter too much as she's probably sad drinking in her room. Soon her bed mayo will have a winey friend.
