You're not fit. The way you're talking about this is boyhood fantasy shit. It is pure wank stains and posturing. Put people like you near the sulfur of gun smoke and that fucking buzz that lets you know a round came to close to comfort, the posturing would cease and the stains you'll be making won't be so pleasant on discharge.
Reality of war is digging latrines and digging up mass graves. And trust me, the stink of shit from latrine pit is better than that of the grave. It is foot rot and fungal infections. It is having to be on top of your shit and aware because if you cop sepsis or a dose of the trots (stomach bug) you're a long way from a fucking hospital and reality of hot zones are you're not getting out before you've either shit yourself to death, or literally turned rotten inside from infection before you go. And considering all of that, the pay is shit, not fucking worth it.
It was the same in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. This unpleasant way of being that has this overwhelming insanity to it. Rationality, shit we operate on in civilian life, it doesn't exist in war, you come out the other side cooked and there is no going back.
Fucking god help you if you end up in a situation where you kill someone, even an enemy. You see, doing it, that is fucking easy. Just control your breathing, three round burst in a close centre mass grouping. It's like swatting a fly. But then you might have to do something like go through their personals, pull out shit your CO could use for intel. Suddenly you're staring at a picture of the poor cunt you just dropped, he's there with his parents smiling, another photo of him with a girl, also smiling. Same face as the one with the vacant expression frozen in fucking surprise bled out in a gutter in Dili. That's when it gets hard, when it sinks in that in what was literally as easy as swatting a fly, yeah, you just ruined those parents life, that girl, she's fucking heartbroken. That you did that, you didn't even think about it when you did, and legally you're justified because it is a warzone and you were just shooting back. Fucking operating through that cognitive mess whilst maintaining operational efficiency......yeah, dont recommend it.
