I hope you're right. However, emergency engine shutdowns like they did have damaged engines in the past so they might have to remove all the engines for inspection and repair.

SpaceX definitely never got the catcher to work (because super heavy never flew), didn't ever manage to land a re-usable rocket at all, and have never once put anything into orbit with any of their rockets.

Space Planes are probably the coolest space vehicle and it's super lame we don't see them being used. I had a shit ton of Space Shuttle related toys as a kid.
I want to see SpaceX test their Starfall system because they could make a crewed version and we could get real life ODST.

I think the logic behind them was that they were seen as the only way to make reusable rockets. In the past either NASA didn't believe you could ignite rocket engines during descent at supersonic speeds(heard that somewhere but don't remember) or they didn't think it was possible to land rockets vertically with pre-GPS technology. So spaceplanes/shuttles were seen as the only viable reusable rocket systems.
The reason for space-planes is cross-range ability. Apollo had a cross-range of about 300 miles, but could only land under parachutes. Starship has a theoretical cross-range of about 300-500 miles, but in its proposed final form has to land at a specially built pad. The shuttle had a cross-range 1200 miles with ease and could land on any sufficiently long runway, though in practical terms there were only a couple it could actually use. The point of the X-37B, Dream Chaser, and similar small space planes is that they're intended to be able to land from an unpredictable orbit or change their landing zone with relative ease, not be so limited by landing infrastructure as a vertical lander, and be able to land in a more practical spot than the middle of the ocean.

Definitely a legitimate concern, the previous SpaceX launch I watched had the booster fail to reignite, but I think that was because of fuel sloshing when it detached from the upper stage. Lots of ways it can go wrong.
