UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

If a country's politics are decided by Niggerball then what even the point of voting.
I mean man, what's the point of voting anyway, you know? Also I didn't watch the niggerball match, I assume our Africans lost to theirs? Do we need to sacrifice one on the pyramid now, to like Quetzlacock?

Thats my point. If people had invested as much in this as they do the football, and if people bothered getting as upset about this as they will tonight, well, I'm not sure what would happen but look at NI and how riots have left illegal scum worried and scared.
Do you honestly think the 50% ( at least ) that have way more interest in the football than politics will ever care ?

If you haven't, read the Turner Diaries. It looks at what it takes to get people off the bench and laments at how hard it is, especially if people are fed and warm. Also how susceptible they are to the mainstream propaganda, brainwashed into thinking and acting a certain way that is considered acceptable. Look at how many blindly got covid vaccinations, took the knee for BLM, believe diversity is our strength - Rightthink, peer reinforced, baaing away like little sheep.

Same with Orwell when he considers the lot of the proles.....So long as Baz has the footie, a beer, some chips and somewhere to sleep - he's never going to care nor understand what the bastards in Westminster are doing to his rights, freedoms and standard of living. There seems to be a disconnect with a lot of people with how when a law is made, it impacts their lives. It's like trying to explain to a 20 something who simultaneously believes that "refugees are welcome here" but can't understand why it's so difficult to get on the housing ladder. The doublethink acts as a prohibiter to cause and effect.

What makes us on this forum any different - we might take an interest, we might understand some of the UniParty's schemes, we might vote.....but what do we actually do about it ?

Perhaps it might have to do with the fact if someone cares about a football team too much the worse thing that can happen is that their side loses, if someone cares about their country too much the worst thing that can happen is that they can go to prison.

but what do we actually do about it ?
Divorced my wife, disowned my 10 kids and am trying to stay informed and educate those around me...wait, fuck, I have no one around me.

No, but I think to stay informed, perhaps debate and talk to people in our personal lives, there isn't much we can do, we're all average citizens, besides some larpers and maybe the odd copper on here... or green party voters, I know there are a few on here.

Are you related to Wayne Rooney by any chance? If so, can you tell him to speak properly next time he's on TV, ta.

The only possible way to do fix this is to basically low level dox every single user online forever.
Oh my fucking God.

I could just about handle "they're spying on you to control wrongthink".

The idea of "they're doxing you to provide an audit trail to maximise their advertising revenue" is such a banal reason that... well I don't really have any words.

Yeah, I'm his distant uncle. I don't do Scouse.

I assume you've never seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off ?

Grace......Grace ?.........GRACE ?!

Supposedly it's actually Meta, the Facebook guys funding all of it, which was surprisingly affordable, as far as government bribes go, only 2 billion USD or so. The logic chain I heard is:
  • Meta does advertisements on Facebook, IG, and elsewhere, but Google dominates that space beyond anything else Google does to the point literally almost every other big player is gone.
  • Meta lost a lawsuit about advertiser numbers in which they had to admit they have no idea how much of their ad views are real people.
  • This brings Dead Internet Theory into the corporate zeitgeist. To wit: Advertisers now demand to know who is real and who isn't.
  • AI and LLMs are already to the point it's quite literally impossible to, at a quick glance, detect who is real and who isn't. The ad data is inherently and forever fucked, and it's still the worst the tech will ever be, it only gets better from here.
  • The only possible way to do fix this is to basically low level dox every single user online forever.
  • As a bonus to doxing to prove they have "real" viewers on Meta's ad data, they could provide down to the minute metrics (e.g. "32% of your viewers were male zoomers," "19% of females canceled the ad halfway through") which would give them a bonus over Google AdSense.
  • Thus, Meta needs/wants to push digital ID to clean up the ad data their business runs on.
  • Bonus: If the device makers are forced to be the ones that ID kids, that means Google, Meta's competitor in the advertiser data space, is the one who has to pay for that, not Meta.
It's important to note they already do this to a certain extent. If you check your twitter account, you'll find a section about "inferred identity." I've talked about this before but this is them figuring out who you are based on advertiser data. This includes things they aren't allowed to ask you, like if you're homosexual or have a medical condition. But the important thing to realize is despite this being EXTREMELY yummy data for the advertisers, it's illegal as all hell in the US, EU, and I imagine the UK as well. They aren't allowed to treat you, as a user, differently because you're gay or female or white. They sure as shit aren't allowed to do so if they figure it out without asking.

Heck, we know a lot about one of the attempted Trump assassins' activity because people realized they could pull advertiser data on who is very obviously him and his phone and track his movements -- and discovered a ton of activity which makes no sense (unless he had handlers helping him). And there was some criminal recently who was caught despite doing everything "right" because Microsoft (and Google) can track users via the GDID, a serial number assigned to your OS install when you install Windows that you can't opt out of, can't delete, can't do anything about. (Now you know why they mandate a Microsoft account sign in whenever you install Windows nowadays.)

But if it's all part of "Digital ID?" Then it's not illegal anymore. There's no scandal about Microsoft already doing this to people, or Google/Meta/X doing it on the sly to figure out "hey this user's homosexual but conservative, keep him away from the other homosexuals" or what have you. They're just using the government approved (legally mandated) paper trail to figure you out, even if you don't want them to. No more pesky EU privacy laws, no more pesky users creating multiple personas online, no people using interesting scripts to try and delete Microsoft's OS (and hardware, TPM chip) level tracking, no more political dissidents causing trouble for the Yookay's Fabian Great Replacement Genocide, etc etc.

Remember the techbros are all either Jeets that scammed their way in power (Google, Microsoft), or are white dudes with SERIOUS martyr complexes (Former guy in charge of X, Meta's Robot Lizardman CEO). They think they're gonna save the world by taking away your right to property, privacy, free association, etc. Becuase they know how to live your life better than you do.
I assumed it was mostly big tech passing the buck to the government for keeping kids off their platform. Like how BT used Carbon Footprint to pass the buck onto everyday people for their carbon output.

There was apparently a plot to carry out a terror attack at some muslim gathering in Suffolk. By 12 people. 8 of them between 29 and 42. Three of them older. One lady arrested of assisting. What it was, we don't know. The gov. won't say.

The event was ran by Tablighi Jamaat. A known group that has been banned in several countries. Including Saudi Arabia. Who called them "one of the gates to terrorism". Even fucking Iran has banned them. Iran. But the UK is okay with them.

Knowing any better, it was probably silent prayers or waving the St. George's Cross flag. Either outside the venue.

They've been able to track everything you do for 16+ years for this exact reason. They already have kind of doxxed you, whether you have a Facebook account or not.

As I understand it, they flew a drone over and went in to scout around a bit, on the assumption that the group was planning someone. Basically satisfying curiosity. This was interpreted as planning a terrorism.

Pre-Ukraine this wouldn't have been a big deal, but Ukraine has essentially had the government wake up and realise that a terrorist attack via drone could happen VERY easily so cracks down on drone's 'hovering' more than anything these days. The punishments are laughably draconian compared to the actual crime, but the idea is to hammer home that you don't do this.

Put it this way, if a drone could get that close to a large group of people, imagine what would happen if said drone was carrying a grenade like the ones in Russia/Ukraine.

Much like politicians will cover up a hundred thousand child rapes for a single vote people in those sort of businesses will spy on everyone in the world to every degree possible if it means a profit after the costs of that observation.

True evil can be very banal.

How do you feel about Argentina beating England in the semi final?
Would have been a win either way, I already wanted England to lose because it may have de-escelated tensions in the country as well as Starmer's "England only wins during Labour governments" line. On the other hand, if England had won we'd be able to laugh at Argentina.

I watched it with the family and it was a really miserable match once they got that first goal, England just stopped trying to score and let the rest of the match play down their end of the field, which made it inevitable that Argentina would score eventually.

They were all arrested under terror legislation, which means they can be held without charge for a week and lose a lot of protections ordinary people have.

This is supposedly a huge terror cell (12 people across the country is something that leads to Bataclan or the Moscow theater attacks) and yet the details are basically zero. If this is legitimate, this is the golden goose for the establishment to pass whatever sweeping draconian laws they need, and yet they aren't. That obviously brings this event into question, as that reaction to attacks is so built-in to the establishment's thinking that not doing so reveals they are scared of the consequences of acting on it.

More likely is that this was a convenient group they could arrest to get the headlines in and then quietly release once the terror-charge hold time is exceeded. If they were serious and put in place the classic legislation response, a week from now they'd be embarrassed for pushing for some law over an old lady holding a placard.

Would not be surprised if this was just some local diversity-worshipping bobby arresting some grannies with placards then charging them under terror legislation to cover up that they were arrested for what could have been a legal and peaceful protest, because the Tier 1 community was offended.
