ID have just completed a massive Doom trilogy with no immediate plans for the future. They are going back to the drawing board with their next game which will be at least 5 years away (probably a new Quake). They don't need coders and QA as full time staff at the moment. This is literally how contract work goes. You get brought in for a massive project and once the work is done and there is no need for you anymore the company lets you go. How does he choose the one studio where the layoffs actually make sense?
