Dogfighting is definitely a thing in small scale, small ship Eve PVP, but it's not something you'd ever do with a HOTAS. Manual piloting wasn't something you could do with keyboard inputs until a few years ago. It was all clicking in space at the right time and high doses of autism. Eve can be very pretty as long as you don't have to turn all the settings down to minimum for a TiDi fuckfest.
Yeah exactly my point. You're not dogfighting in Eve, you're clicking around with a mouse and keyboard. That's not even remotely close to dogfighting in any space sim, it's also not really the point of the game. Hell, you can do it with larger ships in SC and ED.

Most 1v1s between people that know what they doing quickly become 2 circle fights, but the goal isn't to get lined up on the other guy. Because the weapons shoot themselves, manual piloting is all about controlling range and angular velocity. It is the most autistic version of dogfighting possible, both in methods and lack of actual control.
it's also not really the point of the game.
For me and everyone I played with it was. 90% my best memories involved flying cruiser and smaller ships and fighting out numbered and/or under tonnage. The spreadsheets paid for the ships to do it.

Besides whatever the hell is happening at Roblox right now. I think we have another concord like thats being made under very similar conditions.
Ex Bungie, wildly late to the genre, out of nowhere. Likely extremely strange or ugly visuals.

Nah not really, Alex Seropian is someone from the Halo CE Era who mostly makes experimental games now. His current studio even just works on Fortnite experiences.
He's not at all related to current Bungie, this definitely feels like reaching.

After Empulse released in Early Access with a lukewarm all-time peak of under 3000 players, 1047 Games will be laying off staff. / Archive

There is nothing about the game that screams it being the "TITANFALL 2 SUCCESSOR", it's more like Generic FPS game. 1047 also laid off staff after Splitgate 2's release last year.
you know what I'm thinking? Splitgate 3, but lets spend even more money, 300 million, its time for the triple down.

Get it twisted, when you gamble, you win.

They should pitch that to Sony and see if they'll buy 1047. Just one more $100 million dollar gamble on the next Fortnite, bro. This generic live service shooter will be the one!

What was the budget for this one? It's not really a Concordlike since it wasn't backed by a major publisher.

It's a bland looking $20 early access game on steam that launched with a trailer that looked like Temu Titanfall. It failing isn't a surprise, but also likely wasn't big enough to be a concord-like. If this game had even a 50 million dollar budget(still not concord-like) I'd be genuinely surprised. Also to call sub 2900 players "lukewarm"? Concord's free public beta at 2400 was a failure(before it's launch with a peak of 700 cemented it as a videogame lolcow). Mediocre failures like this have always existed, especially early access bullshit.

You reminded me of that battle star galactic unity game back in the 2010s where you actually could dogfight. It was neat.

Splitgate is a tragic story of a cool concept getting eviscerated by the schizophrenic focus on the e-sports. A multiplayer shooter with a Portal gun is an extremely interesting idea but not when the devs take that idea and make maps where doing something actually interesting is close to impossible because interesting and competitive is a poor mix. The way they made the maps just screamed "someone found something cool and we had to nerf it". They might have as well put static teleporters anywhere like in Quake III Arena and it would achieve pretty much the same result. Had the game been more causal and more goal-oriented like Team Fortress 2 it would fare much better.

They're bleeding people by the looks of it, with Haven Studios having lost a senior game designer last week among other things.

Plenty of bragging and empty platitudes on Linkedin, though.

Plenty of bragging and empty platitudes on Linkedin, though.
I am so glad I refuse to use LinkedIn for anything. I steadfastly refuse to create an account there or populate one with my information, even upon request by potential employers or recruiters. "I don't use that shit. It's nothing but lies and platitudes there." This policy has never failed me. I would never want to work for a company that relies on LinkedIn for ... well, anything, really.

The company I work really tried to get people to build their brand via LinkedIn circa 2015. Even went to a few workshops just to get out of work. Never signed up for an account. Thanks for the free time and swag bitches.

What do you use for job hunt? Glassdoor, Indeed?

What do you use for job hunt? Glassdoor, Indeed?
I was laid off in 2024, sold my house for $165k profit and moved across the country to move in with my elderly parents to take care of them for their final days (so long as I'm breathing they'll never set foot in a nursing home to be slowly tortured to death by lazy niggers). My dad's got Alzheimer's (and it's getting bad) and my mother's wheelchair bound and slowly losing muscle strength enough to even get herself in and out of her Hoverround just to use the bathroom :(

Haven't really looked for work though. When I got settled in here, in early 2025 I think, I briefly tried engaging with my recruiter from back in 2019-2020 (who successfully landed me two jobs in a row, even during COVID), but they only generated two leads and landed me one interview (which petered out because I wasn't a good fit culturally ... I was the only white guy on the call if that tells you anything) so I just let it go and focused back on mom & dad. They've lived here 20+ years. There's a lot of half-finished projects they never got around to finishing, so I'm doing the best I can to knock them out and make their home nicer before the end. My dad doesn't understand anymore why the front porch and driveway/garage lights turn themselves on at dusk and off at sunrise every day (Zwave switches and HomeAssistant kick ass btw, highly recommended), and he's finally stopped asking, but I noticed a few weeks ago he's finally stopped opening the front door every ten minutes after dark to make sure the lights are on. ❤️

But generally I've had far better luck throughout my career using tech recruiters/placement companies than I have fucking around on the "job seeker" websites. They're rubbish, and they're just after commissions and I think they're a bit like the dating sites -- they want you to keep coming back (to drive up activity indicators on their site) and that means making the grind harder and setting you up for failure by matching you with dogshit "opportunities." Obviously the recruiters are just after a commission too, but at least they're up front about it and everybody (you, the recruiter and the company interviewing you) all know from the start why your job offer starts a few thousand shy of the industry average the first year and there's no bullshit around it. Yes, you're ultimately paying that commission via reduced salary, but the recruiter fucking earned it because he got you the fucking job and your first annual review raise should more than cover it anyway.

I’ve usually searched on LinkedIn (I know), Indeed, or just used google honestly. LinkedIn is good to have because I’ve always had a lot of recruiters reach out to me through there. When Googling, I’d just search for ‘[job title]+[city]’ and then that coasts a net to animation, vfx, etc as well. If there was a specific studio I was interested in, then I would email them directly or apply via their website. I think the longest time I’ve been without a job was relatively early in career and that was still only around 3 months and took place around 2017.

Unfortunately, I’m not only on LinkedIn, but I have a professional website under my legal name people can look me up on as well. This likely heavily impacts my job searches and hireability in ways I can’t see. Likewise, my role is a niche within a niche so it has always been relatively secure so grain of salt and all that
