War US to resume Strait of Hormuz blockade and charge fees on ships, Trump says - The war that Trump won 35+ times has started again and oh look now he's racketeering with a proposed toll 16 times higher than anything the Iranians were suggesting they'd do

President claims Washington will be ‘guardian’ of waterway and seek reimbursement to provide security for vessels

Donald Trump has said the US will reinstate its naval blockade of Iran and charge a 20 per cent fee on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as Washington and Tehran battle for control of the critical waterway. In comments that came hours after the latest wave of US strikes on Iran, the US president said Washington would expect reimbursement for all goods shipped through the strait, adding the US would be its “guardian”.

“The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Monday. “We are reinstating . . . THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait. The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,’ but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security.”

Trump added this “process and formation” would start immediately. However, he did not specify how exactly the US would implement its plan for the strait, which Washington and Tehran claim to control.

Iran was supposed to gradually reopen the waterway after it signed an interim deal with the US last month to extend an April ceasefire. But after the US encouraged ships to transit along Oman’s coast, Iranian forces began targeting vessels it accused of using an “unauthorised” route through the waterway.

Even if the US is able to keep the corridor open along Oman’s coast, ships will be wary of Iranian attacks. Before the latest escalation, shipping companies had warned it would take time to restore confidence and bring down insurance premiums.

Oil prices extended their gains after Trump’s post, with Brent, the international benchmark, climbing more than 5 per cent on Monday to $80 a barrel. A 20 per cent US levy would add about $16 in cost to every barrel of crude oil passing through Hormuz, based on current prices, or about $32mn per supertanker using the strait.

Trump has previously suggested the US could charge a toll — and share the proceeds with Iran — but later backed away from the idea. His comments follow almost a week of tit-for-tat military exchanges that have risked the return to full-scale war and the collapse of the fragile ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran.

“We’re taking over the strait,” Trump told Fox News earlier on Monday. “We’re just going to hit them very hard, and we’re going to keep the strait, and we’ll probably run it.”

Iran has said several times that it would charge ships additional fees for insurance or a toll to transit the strait in the future, citing the need to cover security and environmental costs. Early in the conflict it said it would charge the largest oil tankers $2mn in bitcoin for use of the waterway. However, as part of the memorandum of understanding it signed with the US in June, Trump had lifted the blockade on Iranian ports and Tehran agreed that ships would be able to pass through the strait without being charged for 60 days.

Iran’s military command centre, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, on Monday said Tehran would by no means “allow the US to interfere in the management” of the strait, its main point of leverage. “Iranian armed forces will forcefully confront any disruption or insecurity in the passage of commercial vessels and oil tankers” by the US military outside the “routes designated by and without authorisation” from the Iranian military, said a spokesperson for the headquarters.

The International Maritime Organization said there was “no legal basis through which to introduce mandatory tolls simply to transit through a strait”. “We have always been consistent . . . IMO stands firmly against charging fees for passage through straits used for international navigation,” it said.

Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with the failure to reopen the strait to ease a global energy crisis. His approval ratings have taken a hit from the war, while voters contend with higher petrol prices ahead of crucial midterm elections in November. Trump said talks had been held with Iran over the weekend for 11 hours in which “everything was agreed to” but “then they broke it. They always break it.”

The US had carried out its fifth wave of strikes on Iran in a week on Sunday, hitting what it said were targets including air-defence systems, missile and drone sites and other Iranian military infrastructure. It said the strikes came after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired at a commercial vessel and said US forces had intercepted an Iranian cruise missile and drone.

In response, the IRGC said its forces had carried out multiple rounds of retaliatory operations against US military bases and other targets around the region.

Shipping traffic through the strait on Monday had fallen to a trickle. No ships passed through a US-administered route close to Oman’s coastline with their GPS signal on and several ships turned back despite approaching the strait on Sunday. Shipping analysts said it appeared that a small number of ships had sailed through the strait without their GPS signal on, but the numbers remained very low.

I do wonder just how many people drafted hypothetically are going to gun it out with cops as a final “fuck you” or flee the country?
Hopefully the majority. If the MPs come to your door trying to draft you then just start screaming " NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER" until they go away.

The entire Arab world has just declared war on Iran, and its own population is starving.

"What this means is that the USA needs a draft."

I wonder if being 100% wrong about everything, again, will help you realize that you're completely disconnected from reality?

Butta I was told by Tucker and Tommy G that Iran is winning and that we will aktually be the ones starving.

Jew this, sand nigger that, strikes here, embargos there, oil from a world away. Being a citizen of empire fucking sucks if your not in the Club or a slave.

Don't worry guys, we'll overthrow the Islamist government for real this time instead!

Careful, that's weapon grade copium. You should promise to dilute it down into merely enriched copium or else Trump might bomb a school near you.
No, that's literally what happened. Shipping stopped not because of Iranian attacks but because Lloyd's of London dropped insurance. Something they didn't do last time there was a crisis in the strait and the Iranians actually made something like 500+ attacks on ships. Instead, Iran screeched like retarded howler monkeys and the Bongs stabbed the world in the back. I assume Starmer had something to do with it too, this has all the fingerprints of a declining once great power trying to play the Great Game but just not being up to it any more.

Even if you think racketeering would be awesome
Racketeering? LOL. LMAO, EVEN.

Op let me dish a little bit of truth to you. AMERICA holds the keys to free Oceanic Trade by military dominance. AMERICA is the one who keeps you from being charged fees and having goods seized by any random country. AMERICA is the one guaranteeing safe oceanic passage for cargo ships. That can be revoked, altered, and changed as needed and there's nothing your little Cuck ass can do about it. You don't get to complain about a GIFT SERVICE American Big Swinging Dick gives you for FREE when they decide to change the terms. Grow up, you magnificent sperg.

This little scheme requires the US to somehow get the Strait of Hormuz open, which it seems to lack the ability to do.
It's ours now, cry harder. What are you betting on? The Iranian regime that had its infrastructure and leadership blown up "35+" times according to you, or bet on the people who blew them up this badly to eventually just conquer and take the damn port? What a retarded take.

Cool, so we're going to piss away hundreds of billions of dollars to once again accomplish nothing and make Americans suffer financially on top of it.
Your brown is showing again. This is a massive source of revenue the US is just taking, and it's pretty fantastic.

Don giving a speech this Thursday. Is he gonna "send them to Iran"?
If Zoomers have a choice, go to Cuba if you want to be shot at more but out quicker. Go to Iran if you want to stand around doing nothing and be there for the next six years.

I do wonder just how many people drafted hypothetically are going to gun it out with cops as a final “fuck you” or flee the country?
Given what's been done so far by Trump's military campaigns? Probably none. When our death count can still be counted on hands and toes, there's only so much you can be concerned about.

It's literally not what happened. Insurance never dropped, although premiums increased. The difference between this and the tanker wars (which were 500-odd attacks across most of a decade, and did likewise see insurance premiums peak) are that the Strait of Hormuz has specifically been closed, which never happened in the 80s. Rather than risking skirmishes in the Gulf, Iran mined the Strait and said "anyone trying to pass without our approval will be attacked". That meant shipping companies and captains were unwilling to take the risk of transiting the passage despite being fully able to get insurance. The Government could not influence Lloyd's of London to restrict syndicates underwriting insurance to ships transiting Hormuz without passing new primary legislation, which they didn't, and there'd be zero logic to them doing that either. As evidenced by the fact that ships could get insurance this entire time.

I know it's tempting to blame Perfidious Albion and you probably heard a theory like this on one of your little Trump podcasts, but it's not reality. What happened was the President did something remarkably stupid and shut basically every American strategist out of the room because Bibi convinced him he could pull a Venezuela. Meanwhile what those strategists were saying came true - "if you attack Iran, you won't manage regime change, they'll leverage control over the Strait of Hormuz and you will not be able to bomb it open.". It's not Lloyd's of London, it's not Keir Starmer, it's Trump being a retard.
Racketeering? LOL. LMAO, EVEN.
Yes, charging a toll over Hormuz would be racketeering. I at least had some respect for the posters who said "we can never concede defeat and give Iran concessions about charging a toll over international waters" because that's a morally consistent position. This is just "anything Iran can do, we can do better" although if you think that money would be going to the American people instead of into Trump's slush fund, I've a beach house in Bushehr to sell you.

Although again, this is mostly Trump's dementia addled mind fantasising about how he's such a big tough guy rather than a realistic proposition.
bet on the people who blew them up this badly to eventually just conquer and take the damn port?
Port? You mean Kharg Island? Capturing it would be a blow to Iran due to the oil infrastructure there but that's not going to reopen the Strait. The Strait is largely closed due to drones on portable launchers and small portable mortars, which can be concealed in any number of caves along its mountainous coast and so cannot be bombed out of existence the way a traditional missile launch pad could.

For the exact same reason it would be impossible to hold Kharg Island without heavy American casualties. You could destroy all the Iranian oil infrastructure on Kharg Island to fuck them over, but they would respond by destroying all the Gulf oil infrastructure, which would be worse than the Strait of Hormuz remaining closed. America's tactical victories in this war are entirely irrelevant as they've yet to achieve anything approaching a strategic victory.

This moron couldn’t even get his precious little tariffs to stick and you think this is gonna happen? It’s just more stock market manipulation.

although if you think that money would be going to the American people instead of into Trump's slush fund
That's where you're wrong nigger. It'd be going to the military. Which I'm fine with.

Lmao, yes it can. You vastly overestimate their capabilities.

they would respond by destroying all the Gulf oil infrastructure
Ah yes, the country that lashed out and put every surrounding country on high alert by attacking all of its up until then neutral neighbors is somehow going to do that again and expect it to go well for them. Ya know, after it's Naval and Air Force were wiped off the face of the earth.

This is Eurocuck(TM) logic at its finest. You think things can happen because your small hamster-brain can entertain the possibility. Yet you have no grasp on the real world, at all. You assert authority and intellectual superiority with easily disprovable points and broken logic.

America's tactical victories in this war are entirely irrelevant as they've yet to achieve anything approaching a strategic victory.
We took the Strait and Eurocucks are seething, I'd say we won.

I hate myself for using this but even the fucking Guardian specifically said that coverage was cancelled, before Lloyd's backpedaled a few weeks later. Iran declared the strait closed, did fuck all, and the Lloyd's immediately bitched out. So yes, Perfidious Albion. Look, I understand that it chaps your hide that Britain no longer rules the waves, but that's literally the problem. The US Navy, post WWII, has taken responsibility for keeping the ocean trade lanes open, the Royal Navy used to keep the choke points clear, but then Bongistan decided it didn't need a navy any more, so now the US has to do everything while the Euros, I don't know, shove dildos up their asses. That's about all Europe is good for.

That's not quite the same thing, is it? That's the mechanism for repricing of war hull insurance premiums, because they're kept artificially low during peacetime. At no point did Lloyd's stop offering insurance, the only ones that said they were suspending war maritime insurance were independent Protection and Indemnity Clubs, of which the cited ones are British, Norwegian and American, and is not the same thing as war hull insurance.

The Strait closed because Iran closed it. Iran closed it because Trump acted like a retard with no long term plan. I am sure it is comforting to tell yourself that Trump's strategy was great, bigly, and it would have all been fine if not for insurers repricing everything and NATO not being at Trump's beck and call for an offensive campaign. But we are in this situation because the President is an idiot who was easily manipulated by Netanyahu into doing his bidding.
We took the Strait and Eurocucks are seething,
If you've taken the strait, how come transits have nosedived as soon as the most recent skirmishes kicked off? That doesn't seem like the maritime activity you'd expect from a secured strait.

They didn't literally cancel insurance, they just spiked the rates so high that it effectively cancelled insurance, because they stopped underwriting or whatever. Fucking autism, I swear to God. That and Bongs and Euros being literal women, because nothing is ever their fault. It's always someone else's, America's, fault.

But we are in this situation because the President is an idiot who was easily manipulated by Netanyahu into doing his bidding.
Someday you retards will actually learn about the Petrodollar and the importance thereof. I'm not holding my breath, because I understand that Jewspergs gotta Jewsperg, because everything is easy when it's Jews all the way down. This may shock you, but there's more to American geopolitics than Israel, like making China's life miserable, but you retards can't see that because just like you swallow Iranian propaganda without question, you also swallow Chinese propaganda with question. God above, you Bongs fucking deserve getting raped to death by brownoids.

That said, about 1000 ships a day are moving through the strait, even as Iran launces a missile or two at them.
You actually believe that? :story:

Remember, Israel's at fault for what happens next to the global economy. And you niggers were its cheerleaders.
Someday you retards will actually learn about the Petrodollar and the importance thereof.
Engaging in this war against Iran on the behalf of Israel, has been the single most damaging action a president has ever taken to the petrodollar, since its inception, you fucking clown. This is going to rupture our economy and bring about the end of the petrodollar as we know it, in the coming months.
