Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

It's not just if the dog is bothering people, it's that they're vectors for many zoonotic diseases and parasites. Dogs are filthy and shouldn't be in a place where people eat. Cat cafes have to have the cats separated from the actual cafe section of the business. It's also why most beaches exclude dogs.

ESA animals technically are a thing, but not to the extent people think they are. They don't get any special privileges to go into establishments that animals usually can't go into, and are less so service animals and more so a therapist saying "Ya, I think you should keep this animal, it is actively a benefit to you".

I think the only time you're allowed to take an ESA animal anywhere special is, conditionally, on a plane. Even then if the plane says no then you're shit out of luck. They're literally just normal pets, except you have a second opinion that you're a good owner, no real special priveleges.

My husband's workplace is near a park, so after I dropped him off, I'm waiting for a dogwalker to cross before turning. On my right is another walker, a thin blonde with a huge pittie tugging on the leash to drag it across the grass with all her scrawny strength while it stares at the other dogs which don't seem to be on alert at all. As I'm passing, I can see she had the gall to have a "Don't judge me" scowl on her face probably because she knew she was being watched.

I get that these dogs are literally untrainable at this point, but seriously, how embarrassing to be such an antisocial dog owner. I thought dog owners are more than chipper to see other dog lovers walking by, and yet I've never seen a pitbull owner be anything but unhappy to be out in public around other owners. I hope the shame eats these people up just before their own dog begins eating them in return.

I’ve been volunteering at the local shelter to keep kittens until they’re ready for adoption. I keep at max two kittens at a time. The shelter has a high kill rate.

While I’m picking up a pair of kittens, another woman who fosters cats/dogs comes in there and loudly starts an unhinged rant about pro-life activists. She was enraged at these imaginary activists.

I wanted to tell her to calm tf down and just imagine all those women are aborting pitbulls to better understand how pro-lifers feel lol

Anyway, I’m starting to think women who volunteer at shelters are mentally ill. Some of these women brag about taking home 10+ foster cats… in their small apartment where the limit is 2 cats.

And these kittens are often so small they need pellets for litter which smells way worse the clumping litter. I can’t even imagine what these women’s homes smell like.

The women who foster these pitbulls are even crazier to me. I’ll see some pitmommy desperately trying to control their foster dog as it lunges at people in the shelter hallway. They look miserable. And it’s not even their dog.

99.99% of these foster homes are women.

They were quick to put down suffering animals or ones that they knew would never find a good home. They worked to expose practices like factory farming. They were holistically interested in minimizing animal suffering. Sure, you had your militant vegans or whatever, but I get that. It was internally coherent.

Now, there’s been a decided shift towards narcissism. It isn’t about what’s best for the animals anymore. It’s about what makes the “animal lovers” feel good.

Focus has moved away entirely from farm animals to domestic animals like dogs and cats. Humanely euthanizing animals is looked at by default with suspicion — couldn’t you have shelled out $2000 to pay for chemotherapy for Tabitha Mittens?? When previously, animal lovers understood that subjecting animals to harsh medical treatments was inhumane because animals can’t contextualize pain like we do and anyway don’t fear death like we do.

Same with stuffing 11 cats in an apartment. Or warehousing dozens of traumatized fighting dogs in cages for years. It’s all anthropomorphizing, but not of all animals just of pet animals.

There needs to be an absolute re-focusing effort on animal welfare.

That'll never happen though because of these sorts of people who propagate this bullshit about THEY CAN ALL BE SAYVED before dropping multiple thousand on a man-biter's health issues. You've a point with consent. Animals can't consent to that kind of treatment, and it's not gentle.

I think sometimes, the most humane thing for all involved is just to euthanize. It's sad that people don't see that anymore, and it's even more sad saying so is akin to calling someone a nigger to animal lovers.
