I'm not shocked that federal agents appeared in person at reporters' homes. I'm delighted they did so. First, it is a fundamental American freedom to slam the door in their faces following a hearty "lol fuck you, special agent fuckwit" and their choice not to indulge in that delightful uniquely American experience is their own loss (and indicative of their general cowardice). But second, they'd be kvetching no matter who turned up to deliver the subpoena (since those must be served in person by a duly-authorized officer of the court or the feds in this case), and they're angry about being held to account, not that the government is indulging in some kind of overreach.

I don't personally think the feds are wrong on this one either. There are, ultimately, "final limits" on some kinds of things. I don't particularly like it on a purely "free speech absolutist" level, but openly threatening the fucking head of state is god damn retarded on a pragmatic level no matter who you are, where you live, or who that person is, regardless of any rights or freedoms you have. It is plainly stupid to poke that bear and act surprised when it reacts. Threaten the head of state AND THE STATE WILL FUCKING KILL YOU (unless you've got the might to make good on your threat and/or stop the state). Technically speaking you absolutely have "the right" to utter threatening words to the head of state of [any nation on Earth]. However, said person also has the absolute right to fucking defend himself, and he's got the power of the fucking state at his disposal to do it. Do the fucking math, journoscum. You won't win that argument. Hope you're well armed if you really think you can.
