Needless to say Supergirl shattered those illusions. There’s no excuse for him to have approved a movie that bad. My opinion of him now is that he is a one trick pony at best.

For the record, I did too. I think Gunn’s Superman is a movie that changes entirely depending on your mindset. If you are outright tired of the 'evil Superman' fad (Injustice, Omni-Man, Homelander, etc.), or you just like the MCU/GOTG style, the chances of you liking this movie are high. And sure enough, many normies did.

But if you compare it to the best versions you can see elsewhere, like the comics, and especially in animation, you are more likely to see the flaws or even dislike it. Such as his soy-boy tendencies, Gunn using Superman to project his daddy issues, and how this is yet again another band of misfits, etc.

Christopher Reeve keeps the crown as the gold standard.

I cannot imagine Christopher Reeve Superman being upset about tweets, it's such a pathetic dumb thing to cause Superman to crash out and start screaming about, at most Reeve Superman would have been bemused by the whole thing.

He’s very chad in an understated way.

Clark is the type of guy to go “HA!” and then compose himself and apologize but not mean it because he found whatever made him laugh really funny and he’s saving it for later.

I think you nailed it. The reason it feels off is because Gunn’s Superman reacted with hurt ego, and that’s not him.

It’s not accurate to say Suoerman doesn’t care about public image insofar as he wouldn’t like regular people fearing him, There’s a reason he runs around woth an S on his chest and a cape. He is not Batman. He wants people to see him and feel safe around him.

But that’s not what Gunn’s Superman did. It wasn’t worry about others that bothered him, but pure ego and pride. One of the many ways Gunn self inserted on him. It was an obvious allegory of him being fired due to his tweets by Disney,

Crying about people trolling you is wounded pride, and having Superman cry about is out of character.
