Eh, it's the medical version of the term. Overdosing means you are over the recommended dose. Ibuprofen bottle says you can take 2 every 4-6 hours and you take 8 every 4, you have officially overdosed. The colloquial term "overdose" means "died/nearly died due to too many drugs" but the medical use is still correct.
