A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Any proposal made here relies on there being a change of government and the law. What I would propose as a first step, were I in a position to make such changes, is repealing the Human Rights Act, the elements of the Nationality Act 1948 that granted British citizenship to commonwealth citizens, a couple of other acts that build on top of these, and then the denaturalisation of any commonwealth citizen whose ancestors were not resident in the UK prior to 1948.

I had another thought about the social media ban, there's a huge amount of 'cleaning up Britain' accounts that are showing up the council. The guys who patrol the M5 and take photos, the cleaning companies in Liverpool, Tyneside, Stoke, etc who use company funds to jet wash parks or roadsigns, small local charities who organise clean ups of major streets, the guy who goes around Birmingham with a bin bag and picks up litter for donations. Some of these accounts do absolutely massive numbers and the comments are nothing but people hurling abuse at the council. TSDomestics in Stoke cleaned up a former swimming pond that had a road cone and other rubbish chucked in it and the council forced them to come to a meeting, and there's our friend the river schizo who dredged the river and brought back the eels.

The Taliban seems eager to take people from Europe into Afghanistan, likely for slave labour or mining or something, but it's not like I care; the West, left and right, already turns a blind eye to slavery in the Gulf States. Slavers like to hang around the north African coast to scoop up sub Saharans. If remittances are also taxed to buggery or outright stopped, places like Syria will start taking their 'migrants' back and put them to work rebuilding the country. There is quite literally a 'manpower drain' from these countries; and some warlord in Pashtun would gladly take a bunch of slaves.
I think the easiest solution for a prospective government, is to deal with ECHR and the Courts, and then give the Navy a blank cheque and say 'have at 'em, and fuck the French while you're at it'. You'd likely solve the army recruitment crisis if you declared war on people smuggling.

Seems fair? 4 were deported, they left on their own accord, any people who hypothetically would've beeen deported would have received 3,000 and further support for 5 years. The scheme was never going to work, trust the man to deport people who was responsible for the Boriswave?

I'll admit, there were legal injunctions by Labour and other human rights shitheads, but it was never a good long-term plan. The Tories and Labour could not give a shit about illegal immigration because they all benefit from it, whether it's human rights lawyers from the Labour camp or hotel/business/care sector owners who get cheap as chips workers in the Tory camp.
