Plenty of countries cut all farms subsidies and transition to very efficient and technologically advanced farms that do not rely on trucks of cheap laborers doing rotations. Highly efficient farms that produce far more yields for far less resources.

Between the advancements in machinery and fertilizers you can run a massive farm with just a handful of full time employees. People really don't understand how far farming has come in the last 100 years. You even have combine harvesters that drive themselves using GPS. Boomers will instead hire illegals and then complain about their farm going under because he can't compete.

Funny but sad anecdote from my personal life.

My boomer parents aren’t terrible people at all as far as the average boomer. My Dad was also smart with money even back in the day for a boomer and is loaded. I digress though.
They’ve reached a point in their lives where they believe they are entitled to fuck off for months at a time on cruise ships to other countries. Here recently they have been gone from everyone for about 2 months to Italy. Me, my zoomer sister, and my 3 millennial half siblings have a group chat with them.
Make of it what you will, but it’s hilarious and honestly saddening to wake up and see a text from them saying “Here we are at *insert lavish area none of us could ever hope to afford*” as if they expect us to be impressed or feel joy for them. Almost no one responds in this group chat save for my eldest millennial sister who ironically has the most from the prosperity era from boomers due to her age.
Me, my other two sisters, and my older brother truly do not give enough of a shit to respond. It may be petty and bitter but as far as my second oldest brother and my third oldest sister, they’re working hard and even then they’re not getting by well enough to where they don’t feel it.

Every single time my parents somehow are home for extended family or friend gatherings. It’s always about what they did, where they went, how they were serviced. It’s incredibly funny to see the current audience’s reaction, which is usually passive bemusement or at best an attempt at half-hearted enthusiasm. Most people cannot relate to these experiences so they don’t really have investment in their snobby stories.
They expect us to be in this group chat praising them or texting them about it, they’ve even expressed this. In reality we literally cannot be asked to give a fuck.

This gets trotted out all the time but the simple case of the matter is there’s less good music made today than ever, despite more people than ever making producing and releasing music. Even genres that predate the modern media landscape, like orchestral or jazz, have been dragged down in quality. I get dragged into this conversation all the time, and every time the example that good music exists today is either some uwu soft boy ukulele rock or fucking King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. All hip-hop-derived genres are bad music, cope and seethe.

Music coming out today is incredible, just nothing mainstream. You have to look in the underground/alternative spaces for it. Thats a big part of why I became goth, pop music took a huge nosedive around 2013 and they sidelined rock in favor of rap music so 13 year old me got into metal instead. Now I mostly listen to industrial, metal and gothic music. Funny enough I actually like 80s boomer metal the most.

I’m going to give the boomers credit on this one since their music not only had the highest concentration of evergreen acts, but also will probably be the last time pop music reaches “classical” status. As soon as Gen X took over music quality nosedived.

Nah, Gen X were the main ones who created industrial in the 90s.

A LOT. Boomers are leaving christianity faster than any other generation still walking the earth. Now that being a fedora tipper, faggot or pussy licker is socially acceptable theyre trying to do all of those things before they die. They are the wicked and adulterous generation the bible speaks of. No wonder the Millennials turned out how they did.

This is already happening in areas that are losing population, mainly the Northeast and parts of the Rust Belt. Those areas used to be the most densely populated areas of the U.S., but in the last 20-30 years have had severe brain drain, as well as talent drain. Not even exaggerating, there are tons of towns/small cities where literally 2/3 or even 3/4 of the population is over 50. Most of the younger gens move elsewhere as soon as they reach adulthood, most millennials with kids move elsewhere for better jobs/schools. Hence, many smaller colleges are merging with one another, or simply closing outright.

This problem is almost entirely a Northeast/Rust Belt phenomenon, the South and both Coasts are still experiencing full college admissions, with some schools even expanding.

If there is a larger shift away from college in the future, that might change, but my anecdotal observation is that most college closures are still happening in places with aging/declining populations. I suspect this might also be a reason why some colleges are desperate for foreign students to the point of overlooking cheating among foreigners or other bad behavior.

This is why peak college enrollment happened in 2010. Americas birth rate collapsed to Japan levels after 2008 and has gotten worse because the economy never actually recovered and those kids are now becoming college aged teenagers. Zoomers have more degrees than Millennials but there are fewer of us, Gen Alpha will be even smaller and browner btw. 2008 was our Japan moment but the powers that be will never admit that.

The reason why newer generations dislike Boomers has very little to do with politics or even their share of wealth. The hatred is interpersonal. The generation is just unpleasant and mean.

There is no section of any generation that reveres the Boomer generation of any political stripe. Leftists do not see Boomers as the champions of diversity and the welfare state. Rightists don't look to the Boomers as the defenders of tradition and champions of populism. Neoliberal/prosperity urbanism younger people don't respect Boomers. Libertarians don't respect Boomers. Anarchists don't like boomers. Third-Worldists don't respect Boomers.

Every single one of these groups hates boomers and blames them for their particular problem. The Boomer hate comes first and the political justification second. Boomers are so unpleasant that every group just intrinsically believes that they must have caused the problem.

Are they sharing it maliciously? I'm gonna have to take the boomer side in this case, sounds like they just want to share with their kids after hitting their retirement and doing the things they put off to raise you and the siblings.

I got my parents chat and they are on the travel phase (part of my dad's job, won't retire. I swear he's going to be one of those dead at this work desk stories). There's nothing special in their travel when they post pictures but I still try to at least do a "wow, nice picture. Looks great" even though i don't really care as europe looks shittier and less special with each passing day.

Maybe I'm a big softie but it's your parents, doesn't hurt to humor them.

In their minds they are on a huge run of good luck and may be oblivious to how much of is coming at the expense of their own children and grandchildren, particularly pertaining to social security which gives some truly absurdly lavish payouts (for the time being).

Its a judgement call for you how much of that is on them vs them just being oblivious and retarded, perhaps you can look at how much effort (if any) they put into trying to understand. Its likely kindof pointless to try to force them to understand thoughbeit.

I'm fortunate to not have had to deal with much of this in my own life, and I'm likely not saying anything that hasn't been said dozens of times already in this thread, but the way that many boomers (and a lot of Gen X to be fair) talk about their kids really disgusts me. There is one thing in particular that always hits me on a visceral level:

"You can't take it with you when you die" when talking about their wealth. There's both so much unspoken and blatantly said anti-community sentiment in this term.

This is definitely something more I see from boomers than Gen X, and it's almost always said in a way to justify wasteful consumerism that often also tends to make sure they're avoiding their kids and grandkids. "Fuck leaving some meaningful wealth to my offspring, there's another cruise about to start... and I really, really should redo the patio again for no reason and still only sit on it about three times per year."

This isn't to say that anyone is owed an inheritance or that a boomer (or anyone with the means) is bad for partaking in frivolities here and there, but this kind of pride of going out and leaving nothing behind but a nougat-filled, heavily medicated, heart diseased corpse for your offspring to deal with is abhorrent, especially if they're the type of boomer who does somewhat understand that younger generations are largely looking at things like home ownership as the type of aspirational goal that a Lamborghini would be to someone their age half a century ago.

I'll PL in this thread.

I work for a certain company that rhymes with "Goyazon." I despise the work, but I've had to take it on as a second job because my nonprofit social services job isn't paying me squat. I've worked since the day I turned 15, worked in fast food while the year of the cough was going on, worked manual labor jobs, and so forth. I put myself through technical college while working the entire time I was in school. I've been holding on to the hope of finally getting a better job after graduating, and I do have some positive things lined up in my future.

I try to be courteous and professional to people while working at Goyazon, and most of the time it pays off. I've been offered food, help, and nice things like that. One thing that I have noticed is that every generation except one has the look in their eyes that they feel bad for me, and if they make small talk with me, they will drop in some pleasantries like "it's a thankless job, but thanks for doing it." There is one generation that, by and large, always has the look of disgust in their eyes when they see me. Of course, that is the Boomers. The body language and attitude from them is manifest as "well, this is divine punishment; I guess that goyazon driver didn't work hard enough in life." All the while they are sitting on a pension that they pulled the ladder up from when they reached it, or the 120k truck that they somehow decided was a fitting vehicle for an aging couple that lives in a home in the suburbs.

It's interesting that a generation that has so much has given so few to ones after them. COVID was punishment, and we didn't let it hit the boomers hard enough.
