UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

So let me get this straight, the nigger who clearly was doing something wrong was trying to be tamed by the police, physically bats a copper in the face with his own baton and the police come out sand say the nigger might be the victim? Yet the white man, surrounded by niggers, gets jumped by the copper (who he didn't realise) punches her by accident and the police say "good job coppers" you literally can't make this two-tier policing up, holy shit.

I'm retarded.

I believe the police are talking about the white dude who got arrested, not the black dude who hit police with baton

Not just that it looks like the originally doubling down tweet where they said they had examined the evidence and the officer did nothing wrong has gone.

If the videos and outrage on Twitter hadn’t happened, that poor bastard would have been beaten up and robbed by the pack of , and then falsely arrested and abused by the cops, and he’d have probably been imprisoned and have a life long criminal record for it too. Cops really are scum.

As it is I bet the don’t drop the charges, even though he’s just blindly trying to defend himself during a beating, and clearly immediately stops once he realises a female cop seems to be the one assaulting him. Fucks sake.

Burnham confirming he will go ahead with social media ban. He will not call a GE. Triple lock is HERE to stay, which, fine, it's in the manifesto. Question for those who are more economically in-the-know, if we stopped all migrant/NGO/charity/refugee/foreign aid/etc/etc payments today, would the 'triple lock' be as much of a political issue, or is it so much money we are just fucked?

Glasgow situation looks fucking mental. Rumours about "Rochdale protection" squads going around? More fires? White Vanguard in Liverpool? People being arrested for criticising Muhammed in York? UK govt now moving to penalise Youtube channels and push the BBC instead? what's going on!

We need to get the guillotines

I can't be the only one who finds everything Burnham does to be so... performative? He swans about with all these grand promises of building a No.10 in the North, nationalising road, rail water, ect - and continuing the legacy of Starmer by pushing through everything in the 2024 manifesto... when he isn't even PM yet? And hell, he isn't even guaranteed to be one? though who else in the party could provide any meaningful opposition to him lol
The leadership election hasn't even been called and he's acting like Starmer did 2 years ago to the day, where Labour has been handed this transformative mandate and everyone was sick to death of the Tories, and the Boriswave, and the decade of mismanagement - when the reality is people are already starting to tire of his folksy "proper down to earth northerner" gimmick before he's even taken office, especially with him out and out saying:

"Yeah, I know most of this shit might be unpopular, but it's in the manifesto - so go fuck yourself."
It almost feels like he's trying to pretend the last 2 years didn't happen, acknowledge they did and make a clean break from them - and continue the course, all at the same time. God, they really make these people in a factory, don't they?

Guardian news

Simple start. Two-tier policing is a myth caused by police training which instructs them to treat people differently based on ethnicity.

Policing in Britain has “adopted the language of activism” and official guidance has “over-corrected” to combat accusations of racism, one of the UK’s most senior officers has said.
Sir Stephen Watson, the chief constable of Greater Manchester police, said he did not believe that “two-tier policing” existed or that forces were biased against white people.

Police had, however, allowed that perception to take hold in part as a result of anti-racism guidance that advised officers to treat suspects differently depending on their ethnicity.
Watson said the official guidance, produced by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) in 2025, should be reviewed after the murder of Henry Nowak, whose treatment by officers prompted riots in Southampton and accusations of two-tier policing from Nigel Farage and the Trump administration.

“Particularly in the light of the tragic murder of Henry Nowak, I do understand that this idea that two-tier policing takes place is now widespread,” he said. “I don’t think it’s justified, but I can understand where it’s coming from.”
Watson, who is tipped as the potential successor to Sir Mark Rowley as the head of the Metropolitan police, said forces must be “a little less timid about making sure we emphasise our impartiality”.
He said policing had “in some cases over-corrected” in official guidance which has “allowed the impression to take hold that we’re not policing without fear or favour”.
“I think we have some lessons to learn … Perhaps we have been uncritical in adopting certain elements of language. We’ve adopted the language of activism,” he said.
“We’ve sometimes taken on board what are challenged concepts and we’ve written those into policy and intent – all with the best of reasons – but these issues then get held up almost as exhibit X, as the proof that we do not treat people equally.”
After criticism in the wake of Nowak’s murder, the NPCC is reviewing its 2025 “anti-racism commitment”, which states that officers should “respond to individuals and communities according to their specific needs, circumstances and experiences, with understanding that these will be racialised and with the aim of reducing harm. It does not mean treating everyone ‘the same’ or being ‘colour blind’ (racial equality)”.
The policing minister, Sarah Jones, said earlier this month it was important to be “mindful of the fact that there has been a history of racism in policing” but called the guidance wrong.
Watson has been called Britain’s “anti-woke” police chief after he instructed officers not to take the knee during Black Lives Matters protests in 2021 because it would undermine impartiality. He said he would “probably kneel before the queen, God and Mrs Watson, that’s it”.
Speaking to reporters in Stockport, Watson said forces should not “use the language of being anti-racist” because it implies officers have “some activist role”.
“Of course we’re fiercely opposed to racism but we’re the police,” he said. “We are not activists. If we overstep … this is what then informs the public perception of two-tier policing.”
Watson was appointed chief constable of England’s second largest police force in 2021 after Greater Manchester police was put into special measures over a series of scandals in which a fifth of crimes went unrecorded.
The force has since more than doubled its number of arrests, and offences including theft, shoplifting and criminal damage fell faster than the national average in 2025, according to official crime figures.
Watson said British policing faced a bigger challenge than at any point in his near-40 year career because “distrust, disorder and division” was more obvious across society than it has been at any time” since the 1980s.
He said it would not be surprising if widespread disorder erupted across England again this summer “given the temperature of contemporary events”, with social media amplifying inflammatory rhetoric from high-profile figures.
He said how public figures conducted themselves was “a matter for them and their conscience” and that it was vital that police “don’t do anything to fuel the fire”.
"Yes we're trained to do that and do so. But pointing it out is lying!"

One in one out deal, ending this year. Last I checked most of those deported were back.
The “one in, one out” agreement on cross-Channel migration between the UK and France is due to end in October, according to French media reports.
Under the terms of the deal, asylum seekers who arrive in the UK in a small boat can be forcibly returned to France, in exchange for others in France who have not tried to cross the Channel being brought to the UK legally.

It has been criticised by NGOs and asylum seekers as unjust, due to an apparently random selection process, and inhumane, because some of those returned to France say their lives have been threatened by people smugglers based in northern France.
Migrant advocacy groups have been highly critical of the agreement. Doctors Without Borders has condemned the scheme as a “a cynical bargaining over human lives”. The NGO provides assistance to people sent back to France and has reported cases of acute stress disorder and disorientation.

A report in France’s Le Monde cites a French interior ministry source as saying the agreement will not be extended beyond October and that an action plan announced by the European Commission on 18 June is intended to replace the bilateral approach to asylum seekers crossing the Channel to the UK.
The Home Office has welcomed the EU Channel action plan, saying it sets out a more coordinated EU-level response to Channel crossings.
According to the Home Office, between last September when removals started and 9 June this year, 921 asylum seekers were returned to France and 896 were brought to the UK legally. Between 15 and 22 June, 1,939 asylum seekers arrived in the UK on small boats.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “The government’s agreement with France has been extended until the autumn. This will ensure we will continue to remove migrants who arrive on small boats over the summer.”
Critics of the one in, one out scheme have expressed doubts that it has acted as the deterrent Keir Starmer had hoped it would be when he announced the “groundbreaking” deal alongside Emmanuel Macron during the latter’s state visit to the UK last July.
The Telegraph has reported that people smugglers in France are now doing detours, making journeys from France to the UK up to 80 miles, approximately four times the shortest cross-Channel journey.
Asylum seekers returned to France have told the Guardian they have received little support there, with some threatened with return to countries such as Syria. Others have returned to the UK for a second time in lorries or small boats, leading to an amendment to the policy this month allowing for France to accept back some asylum seekers who have returned to the UK by lorry.
Nothing but wailing about the plight of poor asylum seekers.

Does anyone know what those huge bastard moths are that keep coming inside and why don't they move all day?

VoxPopuli have leaked an audio clip allegedly from Piddington Council, where they are discussing a 'symbolic referendum' on the issue of asylum seekers being housed at RAF Bicester. (X)
🇬🇧 "Because Westminster just go ahead and do what they want WITHOUT our consideration. We're going to SHOW THEM what it's like."

Piddington Council is considering a SYMBOLIC REFERENDUM on "seceding" from the UK in PROTEST after the Home Office announced plans to use RAF Bicester to accommodate up to 1,200 migrants.

Piddington itself has a population of 350.
The UK Right might be utterly retarded (or compromised) for the amount of times I've seen people discussing their future plans before actually doing them (ie discussing throwing out Boomer Lowe for not being an ethnat and then getting kicked out the party). You have to do your night of the long knives before fucking telling someone you're going to do it. However, interesting if councils are still throwing around ideas like 'stop paying council tax' and 'tell Westminster to fuck off'.

It's baffling you speak of this country like you're still invested in it, when you chose to leave it long ago for you own benefit.
I'm actually offended you still consider yourself British. You're a foreigner, a tribeless expat, and you made that choice,

You felt no kinship to your own people, no connection to the land itself, which is how you were able to abandon it in the first place. You don't abandon the things you love.
What's more, despite fearing for your country's future, being aware of its possible hardship to come, you ultimately prioritised comfort over duty and your own people.
Putting your self-enrichment and comfort first? Sounds just like any other immigrant—which is what you are, to reiterate. You are not British. You surrendered that willingly.

You don't deserve to come back. Ever.
I've been thinking about this post a lot recently and wonder if anyone still agrees with this? I truly think the damage is irreversible at this point; it's a sinking ship and it'll only get worse from here. I no longer feel connected to this land, especially since the majority of the native population is complacent in its destruction.
