I don't think anyone ever actually took Madonna seriously in any capacity in the "high art" world. People only circulated that book because they wanted to see her tits. Pop music was her only "forte", given her decent singing voice, but her only real distinguishing factor in the early pop music days was her willingness to do nudity (in that shitty book, in a trashy B-movie that I suspect Willem Defoe would rather forget, etc.). Miley Cyrus took up that mantle to a similar "not nearly as hot as we hoped" response in recent times. Nobody really cared.

And as a side note, I think that's why (((they))) destroyed Britney Spears' personal life as hard as they did -- as hyper-sexualized as they made her act, she never (to my knowledge) did any intentional nudity of any kind, despite what had to be endless, unrelentingly intense pressure to do so once she turned 18, and that probably angered them (pop stars that take their tits out tend to get another "hit album" before they go stale for good, and her refusal probably cost them a hundred million).

Was it ever thought of as hip or cool? For zoomers today porn isn't even viewed as sexy anymore, just a necessary evil because everyone is addicted to it.
