BANGKOK (AP) — An 11-year-old boy crashed a pickup truck into a group of monks on a pilgrimage walk in northeastern Thailand on Thursday, killing nine, officials said.

A total of 35 monks from Mukdahan province, about 600 kilometers (372 miles) northeast of the capital Bangkok, were on the pilgrimage. Five monks were killed at the site, while four others died at a hospital. Thirteen were hospitalized with three in critical condition, according to the provincial administration.

The group started the 260-kilometer (161-mile) walk to Ubon Ratchathani province about 30 minutes before the crash.

Security camera footage shared by a local rescue group, Ruam Jai Mukdahan Rescue Association, shows the monks walking in a single line on the side of a road before the truck crashes into them.

The boy is in custody and will be questioned when state child protection officers arrive, police said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but police said the monks described seeing the vehicle swerving before it slid off the road and crashed into the group.

Near midnight between Wednesday and Thursday, July 2, 2026, a report was received at the Israel Police Hotline 100 and the MDA Hotline 101 regarding a shooting incident on HaHagana Boulevard in Haifa. An 18-year-old man was killed in the incident, and three other men were injured – two of whom were evacuated in serious condition to Rambam Hospital, and another man, slightly injured, apparently arrived at the hospital independently. The background to the incident is apparently criminal.

MDA medics and paramedics arrived at the scene on HaHagana Boulevard in Haifa and located three unconscious men with serious gunshot wounds to their bodies. One of the injured was without a pulse and not breathing, and after medical examinations he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police spokeswomen, he was an 18-year-old young man. The other two injured men received life-saving medical treatment at the scene and were evacuated in serious condition, unconscious, to Rambam Hospital. A fourth injured man, who was slightly injured, apparently arrived at the hospital independently.

MDA paramedic Tzfora Shagul, senior MDA paramedic Nofar Nadaf, and MDA paramedic Avraham Epstein said: "We saw 3 men unconscious with serious gunshot wounds to their bodies. One of the injured was without a pulse and not breathing. We performed medical examinations, but unfortunately we had no choice but to declare him dead. At the same time, we provided the 2 men with life-saving medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital in critical condition."


The Coastal District Commander arrived at the scene – the investigation was transferred to the IDF.​

Large police forces from the Carmel Region arrived at the scene of the incident on HaHagana Boulevard, began collecting evidence and searching for suspects. The commander of the Coastal District, Chief Yechiel Bohdana, arrived at the scene and conducted a situation assessment with the commanders in the field. At the conclusion of the situation assessment, the investigation was assigned to the Carmel Region's Crime Fighting Unit (CFU). The initial investigation findings indicate that the background is a criminal incident. Several directions are being examined as part of the investigation, with the aim of investigating the circumstances of the incident and locating those involved. The police are continuing their investigation and searching the field.

Those monks are nuts and super apathetic. I'm sure they sat there and let him hit them from some twisted sense of it being their karma or whatever.
 
People think we watch this shit for the thrill but for me it's to remind myself to cherish every single day on earth. Tomorrow isn't promised. Tell your loved ones you care about them. Hug your dad. You never know what the future brings.
