USDemocrats grapple uncomfortably with World Cup success - A logistically smooth tournament poses a problem for Trump’s critics.

The triumph of the World Cup’s first two weeks — boosting the U.S.’s global reputation with sold-out stadiums and few logistical complications — has forced Democrats who had criticized President Donald Trump’s role in preparations to grudgingly reconsider.
“I think that there was a little bit of like liberal wishcasting that this would maybe be a disaster to sort of stick it to Trump,” said Rob Flaherty, the digital Democratic strategist and soccer fan who attended the U.S. group-stage match with Australia. “It hasn’t yet been.”
Before the tournament, attitudes about the World Cup were polarizing, like so much else, along partisan lines, with Democrats confronting FIFA and the Trump administration over high ticket prices, shortfalls in public funding, and the government’s posture to foreign visitors. As the tournament approached, local officials in areas hosting matches, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, turned from critics to cheerleaders.
Now a prominent congressional Democrat is going even farther: praising the U.S.’s handling of tournament logistics — if not giving the Trump administration explicit credit by name.
This week, Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Philadelphia Democrat active in foreign-policy issues, called it a “remarkable success” and vowed to “do everything I can to get the World Cup back here as soon as possible” in an X post.
In an interview with POLITICO Thursday, Boyle said, “this has been a great moment, actually devoid of politics, and I think it would be best to keep politics out of it.”
“I’m excited about the U.S. hosting the World Cup, how well that it has gone, how receptive these foreign fan bases have been to finding out more about the United States and interacting with ordinary Americans,” Boyle continued.
Boyle’s enthusiasm places him in rare territory. Though other prominent Democrats including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, along with Mamdani and Sherrill, have all attended games, few among them have been willing to articulate anything that sounds like praise for the authorities putting on the event.
“Let me be clear, my comments are irrespective of the Trump administration. Frankly, his immigration policies for the last year and a half did scare some people off from coming to the United States,” said Boyle. “The credit goes to the local host committees.”
On one hand i doubt Trump had much direct involvement with the logistics of getting the world cup going, on the other hand Dems truly are miserable fucks who are angry when they dont have something to bitch about.
Doubly so for the World Cup since it both went well, and has proven to many Europeans that the States are actually pretty cool
The inability for Democrats to distinguish between illegal aliens who sponge off the economy and international tourists who contribute to it is astounding to me.
They're mad the rest of the world realized their fearmongering about the US being an authoritarian state where any foreigner will be imprisoned/killed upon entry turned out to be obviously fake and gay, and they all love their time here in America
I visit r/soccer on Reddit a lot (It's the best place for highlights and news but sadly also full of Redditors) and before the tournament a lot of them were gleefully predicting it would be a complete failure and all the stadiums would be empty. They're very quiet now and mostly just malding about the hydration breaks and how much money they make (Granted they're pretty annoying). You love to see it. I'm not American and have never been to America, but I think it's great to see all the fans over there having fun and seeing that America isn't the hellscape it's made out to be.
So you're saying that if the state, city, and county has more say over things happening in the state, city, and county than the federal government does, then it doesn't matter how shit the federal government is because the locals can make their locale better? Like, on their own?!
Gee, wish there was some sort of polical party and/or system than emphasized local control before centralized control, Mr. Democrat Man.

how much of the logistics is even governed at the fed level? its all city based: road traffic, public transport, public safety and lodging. aside from border control i dont know what the fed is providing.

- Soccer is gay and nobody cares about it
- But we still do it better than everyone else
- And hosting it makes ShitLibs cope, seethe, and dilate that the world likes all the wrong, chudly things about America...
- While Spiteful Mutants see foreign monocultures cheering unapologetically for their ethno-states

They know, they just pretend not to for rhetorical and ideological reasons. Frankly they should just be called slurs and booed out of the room when they do this, instead of being humored.
The right wing response to this needs to be:
“So long as they behave themselves on American soil, tourists are obviously very welcome in America.
If you do not behave yourself, or abuse your tourist visa to game our legal systems, for example, birth tourism, you will be thrown out on your ass with velocity, and will not be welcome back. If you commit felonies you will be prosecuted the same as a legal resident would be. In the case of pregnancy tourism, your offspring will not receive American Citizenship and will also be banned from the premises for life should you seek to make them one in this manner.”

They're perfectly able to distinguish between the two. They absolutely know the difference. Just like they absolutely know the difference between a legal immigrant and an illegal alien. They purposefully ignore the difference to muddy the waters and cause confusion so they can make people upset and hopefully keep their low-wage slave class and push for them to become naturalized citizens for votes, or at the very least have their anchor babies be voters in the future.
One can only hope the Yuropoors who visited the USA during the World Cup finally understand that the grass really is greener in Murrica versus the lunacy of their current EU ultra-liberal governance. Rainbows ahoy, but maybe enough of 'em will take that lesson home from their experience here.
Guys a violent leftist couldn't blow up or shoot up the event, I'm so disappointed because of that, now I can't read opinion pieces about why it would have been a good thing if it happened, but also bad because something something trumps fault.

Consider that this is an international movement of people and items there is at least some handling of the logistics at a federal level, and pragmatic officials will generally collaborate to lower resource costs and smooth out the process for everyone involved. Assume that democrats and/or republicans are the ratfuck bastards you think they are, being the squeaky wheel that threatens any part of the billion dollar enterprise they’re invested in is likely to end up with a double tap suicide.
