I don't know if this would belong here or in General Discussion, but I'm looking for some advice on how to deal with lack of sleep. I think I may have insomnia, but I am not sure. I know I'm not supposed to powerlevel, and this forum is not my personal aslylum, but I am looking for some advice from my fellow Kiwis.
See, for the past five or so days, I've been getting very little sleep. For some reason, I can't sleep at all during most of the night, and what little sleep I do get is usually in the very early mornings or the dead of the afternoon, and even then, I only get three or four hours of sleep at most per day. The most sleep I got this week was about four or five hours yesterday afternoon, and I still kept waking up frequently. I've also been experiencing some nightmares as well, and one night I even experienced night terrors at one point (this was after taking some over-the-counter sleeping pills, I can't remember the name of them), and for the entire week I've been extremely tired and fatigued throughout most of the day and even into the night.
I'm normally an "Early to Bed, Early to Rise" kind of guy, but for some reason I haven't been able to sleep at night this week and I have no idea why. I've been cutting back on the caffeine and I don't have any major stress in my life right now. Even during the fall and winter, when I have a fairly decent workload (both in terms of college classes and seasonal jobs), I usually sleep well. During the summer, I tend to have lots of free time aside from my usual summer job of mowing people's lawns and doing general yard and garden work (which I'm not even doing this year), and most of the time then, I sleep well. It's only in the past five or six days that I've been unable to get a good night's sleep.
Since the sleeping meds didn't work last time, this time I bought a bottle of whiskey. As sad and dangerous as this probably sounds, I'm going to try to get tipsy enough to fall asleep. If that doesn't work, I'm thinking about seeking proper medical attention and making an appointment with my primary care provider.
Does anybody else have any experience with insomnia? Should I see a doctor about this? I'm legit concerned here.
