In Canada? Definitely. There's no armed Canadian civilians here we only rely on police for protection. Yeah we use rifles for hunting but we have registration licenses for that and no civies in an urban area would have any firearms. Well not ones that aren't in gangs of course.
Montreal having quite a few jewish enclaves, you can usually find private security cars parked outside most synagogues and passing through their neighbourhoods you can usually find hebrew-branded cars for community services, but I suspect that these are not armed security, and neither are the civilians armed because not only is this canada but it's urban canada.

In Canada the SKS is very right-wing / Chug coded, ironically. It's also the most common centre-fire rifle. A huge proportion of gun owners have at least one, especially Chugs, which is why (so far) it has been difficult for the WEF to ban.

The social dynamics here are kind of weird with most of the extremist undercurrent being tied up in quebec separatism instead of more typical anglo-sphere right-wing thought. In other provinces you will have more prominent groups that you can roughly paint as right-wing extremist, likely because the lack of language barrier makes them interface more with broader canadian/american social currents.
Which is even weirder because there are major Jewish communities between Alberta and Montreal.
So long story short, if you hear gunfire in Canada it's actually literally 50/50 whether you should run towards the gunman or police. Great. Between this and the great rape in Bongland it's not looking good for the commonwealth bros
If he's from Alberta as was reported it might be an Albertan separatist thing? Those not in the know the Premier of Alberta Danielle Smith is getting heat with the rest of Canada because she thinks it's constitutional to have a referendum for voters to vote on the right of Alberta to separate from Canada but many interest groups like the Chiefs of the Indigenous tribes say she'd have to ask permission from Indigenous leaders first so it's a hot topic in Canada right now. Not sure what shooting up a Jewish neighborhood in Montreal has to do with it though?
