It is just a lazy plot device. Abstraction seems to be triggered by a mix of loneliness and despair, but Kinger handled being alone for God knows how long after losing his wife and the frog abstracts despite being friends or at least on good terms for most with most of the cast. Then you have Gangle who is the brain scan of a legit suicidal person who is relentlessly bullied by Jax since day one and she hangs in there just fine. She has a little moment spacing out in the fast food episode, but a quick pep talk from Pomni fixed it.

The show is tame, in the manga, if a new tween character is introduced it is guaranteed there is a sexy two page spread of them at the end of the volume. I really wanted to like the series because the mystery around the abyss and artifacts was really cool, but after it became apparent that EVERY SINGLE PRETEEN introduced will be shown naked at the end I gave up.

Yeah it's weird how this super important lore character just didn't get any meaningful screen time. I guess Goose was too busy jerking it crazy style to Jax being pinkpilled to realize the wasted potential there.

Most of the characters are in their 20s, but with the way they are written you can easily reduce them down to their teens and he clearly wanted to do some sexual exploration but likely got cockblocked by Glitch who wanted to keep it at PG 13.
