Yeah whoops. I should have phrased that better. I don't go on reddit of all fucking places to find that kind of stuff. I needed to make a reddit account back when I was making the r/letgirlshavefun thread. Everything on there was walled behind an agegate that I just made an account to not have to keep hitting the continue button.

I really should update it because there's a ton of troon subreddits now.

The right way to look at this is to ask: what are we grouping together, and why?

A chair is a kind of thing made for sitting. That does not mean that every chair must look exactly the same, or that every chair needs 4 legs. It also does not mean that every possible edge case destroys the very concept of a "chair". It means we are grouping things by their real purpose and their real features, i.e. they are objects meant to support a person who is sitting.

That works on sharks because they have really sensitive noses. In fact, you don't need to even punch them, just aggressively petting their snout can paralyze them from the overstimulation.

Actually, that Redditor isn't totally wrong about punching a cougar square in the face, but he's being really casual about it when it's more of a last resort if it's already attacking you. In general, if you see a cougar before it's attacked you then it's best to stare at it and look big and threatening while slowly backing away, because even if a cougar could easily fuck you up, its instincts tell it to avoid fights and focus on ambushing unaware prey. This is in contrast to bears which are more likely to attack you if they think you're threatening them, which is why people say to play dead.

Brown bears are far more likely to attack defensively/territorially than they are to attack for predation. You're still going to get majorly fucked up, and you may still die just due to the fact that bears are really big and strong, but a brown bear is more likely to leave you alone if you aren't a threat. Especially in the spring and summer where easier sources of food are abundant.

Black bears are more likely to bluff charge you but generally will not pick a fight with a human for defensive/territorial reasons than they are to attempt to predate a human. Generally speaking if a black bear attacks you it is doing it because it is hungry, not because it's angry. So if you're attacked by a black bear fight like your life depends on it because it likely does. But also generally speaking a black bear will tend to go away if you look big and mean enough.

With that said if a bear attacks you in mid to late fall then ALWAYS fight because at that point the only bears that are still up roaming around are most likely doing so because they know instinctively that they are not heavy enough to survive hibernation and they're looking for anything they can get their mouths on.

I found a black bear on my deck one morning just after they were coming out of hibernation. I got it to run away by opening my kitchen window and calling it a nigger. I wouldn't suggest this method if you have neighbors nearby.

Black bears are generally more like overgrown raccoons than bears. But if they decide to attack they're a lot bigger and stronger than they look.
