Polish President Karol Nawrocki has stripped Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky of Poland’s highest state honor, the Order of the White Eagle, after Kiev named a military unit after a nationalist group implicated in the wartime massacres of Poles and Jews.

Nawrocki announced the decision in a video statement on X on Friday, saying that “historical truth is not and can never be a bargaining chip” and that “the memory of the victims is the moral duty of the Polish state.”

The move follows weeks of growing tensions between Warsaw and Kiev after Zelensky signed a decree in late May granting the honorary title “Heroes of the UPA” to the Special Operations Center North. The designation refers to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN). Zelensky said the measure was intended to revive the “historic traditions of the national army.”

Nawrocki said the decision crossed a red line, noting that for “the vast majority of Polish society,” the UPA remains synonymous with atrocities committed against Polish people during World War II. Poland officially recognizes the actions of the OUN and UPA as genocide.

“Facts are not subject to negotiation,” Nawrocki said, adding that they do not change with political expediency.

“The facts are that at least 100,000 Polish citizens were murdered by the UPA... only because they were Poles or Jews or other minorities,” he stated.

The Polish leader argued that naming a Ukrainian military unit after the UPA “has a meaning that goes far beyond the internal affairs of Ukraine” and described Kiev’s glorification of the group as “insulting, incomprehensible and deeply disappointing.”

The decision has drawn support from prominent Polish political figures. Former Prime Minister Leszek Miller called Zelensky’s decree “a spit in the face of Poles,” while former President Lech Walesa said it insulted “all murdered” Poles by honoring “UPA bandits.”

Zelenskiy's chief of staff renounces Polish medal amid WW2 dispute

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's chief of staff said on Saturday he was renouncing a Polish state medal after President Karol ‌Nawrocki stripped Zelensky of Poland's top honour over a historical dispute.
The move by Kyrylo Budanov threatens to deepen a diplomatic rift between the close strategic partners as Kyiv rallies allies to push Russia to end its war on Ukraine.

Nawrocki said on Friday he was revoking the Order of the White Eagle from Zelenskiy after he renamed a military unit in honour of World War Two-era Ukrainian insurgents blamed for massacring Poles.

Budanov said he was renouncing the Golden Officer's Cross of the Order ‌of Merit of the Republic of Poland, awarded to him last year, to protest against a move he described as "a gift" for Russia.
"Our nations have long-standing relations and different pages of history - both heroic and tragic," he posted on social media. "However, this should be an occasion for deep reflection, not crude political speculation."
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha had earlier called Nawrocki's decision a "strategic error", and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a Nawrocki opponent, urged both leaders to remain calm.

It's not about supporting Ukraine. It's about working against Russia, which the worst nigger country of all, and has fucked Poland 10000x more over the course of history. Enemy of my enemy is my friend etc.
"10,000x more" is a high bar. Poland doesn't have the most amicable history with neighbours.

I'm with the Poles on this one, the Banderites were sadistic cowards who could dish shit out to defenseless civilians but couldn't take it whenever they went up against even badly organized & armed Polish resistance, and obviously got raped to death by the Soviets once the latter rolled in as well. They achieved their highest-ranked kill among the Poles by treacherously inviting official representatives of the Polish Home Army to supposed talks for peace & reconciliation, only to ambush and torture the Polish party to death. Bandera himself wasn't the only one responsible or even the OUN leader with the most direct hand in the massacres either, arguably even worse niggerfaggots like Roman Shukhevych did that while Bandera was cooped up in a concentration camp for having ideas too big for the station the Nazis had envisioned for him at the time, and the modern Ukrainians have been trying to whitewash the latter too.

The Ukrainian Insurgent Army were gay niggers of the worst kind and it's been genuinely baffling watching the Ukrainians struggle to rehabilitate their image & holding them up as some wonderful national heroes this past decade. Like damn, the Ukrainian People's Army of 1917-20 sucked diarrheic donkey ass who routinely jobbed to the both Red & White Russians (and Poles, and Ukrainian anarchists) but at least they weren't sickos who cheerfully cut fetuses out of pregnant Polish women, and the SS Galizien were also psychotic niggers that literally directly worked for the Nazis but at least they actually fought pretty hard against enemies who weren't defenseless women & kids on top of their atrocities against said women & kids. If they wanted to promote a national hero who was a brutal asshole that nevertheless still fought bravely against various enemies & actually got shit done, Ukraine already had guys like Bohdan Khmelnytsky in their national pantheon.

I know this observation has been made many times since the start of the war- but it never ceases to amuse me that leftists constantly said any kind of association with Nazis was verboten, I believe the expression was "if 10 people are at a table and one of them is a Nazi, you have 10 Nazis". And now they have been supporting the Ukraine while making excuses/turning a blind eye to actual Neo-Nazis within the Ukrainian military being officially tolerated/endorsed by the Ukranian government.

Yes, I know the Ukraine Nazi larp has a historical basis because some Ukrainians fought for the Axis against the Russians, doesn't change the point of leftists being hypocrites on this issue
Yes, I remember before The Biden Crime Family came to power, the left were all screaming and yelling how Zelinsky was a Nazi and a Dictator. I even recall a lot of news articles written by the lefty press saying the same thing. Once Ukraine became a giant money laundering operation for them, Zelinsky became the Hero of the Free World and the only thing standing between us and the Russian Menace.

Funny how now that the Bidens are gone, you hear very little about Ukraine and all the Ukrainian Flags and "I Stand With Ukraine" social media posts have all but disappeared.

Has probably nothing to do with Biden, but the fact that the Special Military Operation is now past the entire length of WW1 and well past the lenght of Easter front of WW2. Also, practically NOTHING of significance has happened since the end of 2022 regarding the actual front lines. Russians can't advance, Ukrainians can't take territory back. It has been a standstill for the past 3.5 years.

It's called fatigue. People move on to different things.

It's called fatigue
Nah it isn’t even fatigue, people are cattle now to dopamine drama news, that’s all. If it lasts longer than a month it better be some kind of big trial that will be on the news later or something like that because people will move on to the next shiny BREAKING NEWS alert that will shock the world.

I am darkly interested in seeing how a 9/11 event would go down today compared to 2001 just because I am sure it would never be close to the same unifying crisis event and the fact that the first 9/11 went the way it did is only partially responsible for it. I guess the closest things we have are the Trump/Kirk assassins

The "highest honor" stuff served its purpose in 2023 when Europe was full on gobbling Ukraine's cock over being attacked by Russia. I think it's safe to say the honeymoon effect is wearing off.
Meh, it hasn't really changed in the big picture. Poland's current president, (Nawrocki, elected last year) just doesn't care for Ukraine for personal reasons. He's doing some small stuff like this to show that, when he cannot really change the actual foreign policy of Poland which is dictated by the parliament, that is very much pro-Ukraine. The president and prime minister are at constant odds regarding pretty much everything. The approval rating for both is pretty similar as well though, so the nation doesn't really know which way to lean on either lol. Nawrocki won the presidency by the slimmest of margins (50.89% vs 49.11%).

The rest of Europe? Zelensky is still viewed the same as he was in 2022.

It's that way simply because the binary opposite in that war is Russia, and Europe is not going to support them at all.

What I have noticed is the countries are balking at just giving them raw money, which was the drive then. It's changed to almost exclusively military hardware.

He should at least dress like a proper commander then like Churchill and Stalin did during WW2.
And carry on that brave tradition by slurring his way through major speeches.

(Not the nigger kind of slurring, the kind where you wake up and finish the drink on the nightstand you didn't get through the night before.)

The funniest thing like this was the (Canadian ?) government bringing a former nazi into the room and giving him a standing ovation then having to backtrack like crazy once it was revealed

That was Justin Trudeau. He made the speaker of Parliament take the fall for that because absolutely nothing was his fault, including not checking on why the Ukrainian was killing Soviets.

While I can understand where BOAF SYDEZ are coming from here, it's honestly just another example of why Europe (and the US, to be fair) desperately needs something, anything, to replace World War II and the LOLocaust as its current creation myth. It's fucking stupid that modern western self-flagellation culture continues to litigate this shit 80 years after the war ended, when it's hardly the only time in the continent's history that competing societies went about killing each other in the most brutal manner.

Zelensky insisting on wearing that stupid sweater to official events is cringe on pair of Tim Pool hiding baldness under that gross beanie
if zelensky played his cards right and dressed as ballerina, the liberals would say how brave he is and russians would just give in as they wouldn't want to live in such world where everyone thinks that's acceptable.

but zelensky doesn't think about long term perspective, 500+ years.

he just lives the moments between the lines.

WWII was a big damn deal and I am always down for watching WWII shit. No matter how many stories you've heard, there's always something that happened in some corner of the world that BLOWS YOUR MIND in terms of the human cost, scale, decision-making, tragedy, and so forth.

You don't give a shit about the Nazis? There's a whole other villain on the other side of the planet doing crazy, fucked up shit!

That being said, and this isn't a fleshed-out idea, the 20th century and the 21st century, with the ability to see things instantly and connect the world instantly, have this sense of urgency that's not healthy.

"People are dying in Syria so we have to let Syrians in RIGHT NOW THIS WEEK ALL OF THEM."

No long-term thinking, no consideration of how the native population is going to feel, no consideration that you're potentially shifting a lot of people into the country who have no interest in becoming French or British... And I could say that some of that is American thinking where you can take a million random foreigners and reasonably expect that their kids will be cultural Americans. But that doesn't work in Europe.

Whereas 150 years ago, a lot of the Syrians would have just up and died and it would be a bummer but if they all want to kill each other that's not something we need to control or even have the power to control.

Here's Winston Churchill visiting the White House in 1942. And he wore a "siren suit", in consolidation for the British homefront that was under German bombing:

I mean if you are going to make references like that, at least don't embarrass yourself.
Looks better and more professional than fucking camo pants and sweater and he didn't ware the same god damn thing throughout the war.
