FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.

Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

Are Karmelos siblings younger than him? Were the books in his bag 'gifts' for them perhaps? I know the mother screeched about 5 more boys at home.
Karmelo's siblings are younger than him. The lady who was asking how she could possibly tell her 5 boys not to murder was not his mother, just a protestor in the parking lot.
I don't think they were actually books. The few sites that went into detail about the contents of his backpack always called them "word puzzles", so I'm assuming they were individual pages, sort of like this:

You know, just the thing you carry around as a badass gangsta nigga about to stab a cracker.
Maybe this was his homework. It would explain his ridiculous claimed 3.7 gpa if he was in remedial 3rd grade classes.

These showed up today.

Or maybe they could move to this bustling metropolis in Georgia!

The parents didn't even attend the sentencing, left him out to dry after they milked that grift for every cent possible. Then they start agitating for his release. He won't get parole as long as any of the Metcalf family are alive. Wouldn't want to be any of these people when it comes time for the Pearly Gates. They would be well-advised to drink all the cold drinks possible.

I was curious so I looked up Karmelo's high school. It sounds like the type of school you would want your kid to attend if you had to live in Texas. What I'm reading shows that Karmelo had every opportunity to succeed and was surrounded by other people who were making use of their similar opportunities, and he intentionally chose to try to be a tough gangsta even though he's a 130 pound twink who's now going to get buck broken with a mop on his head all the time in prison.

Even if he were in remedial classes, a school like this would still be a better environment than many American high schools.

The school's enrollment grew quickly, fueled by Frisco's record growth. As early as 2006–07, Centennial had exceeded its capacity of 1,800 students, and in the fall of 2006 Liberty High School was opened to help relieve this overcrowding.
Note: Austin Metcalf's school was Memorial High School in Frisco. It opened in 2018 and was built because other schools were becoming overcrowded.
As of the 24-25 school year, there are a total of 2,035 students enrolled at Centennial High School. Of the students enrolled, 55% of students are Asian, 25.5% are White, 8.8% are Hispanic/Latino, 6.7% are African American, 0.44% are American Indian/Alaskan Native, and 3.6% are Multiracial. 9.8% of students at Centennial High School are eligible for free or reduced lunches.
At present, the school is still rated "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency. Students at Centennial scored an average of 1202 on the SAT and 27.6 on the ACT as of 2025. Centennial High Schools had 23 National Merit Finalists in 2024, as well as 41 students commended for National Merit. Centennial students took a total of 3,712 AP Tests in the 2024-2025 School Year, with 89% of them scoring a 3 or higher score.

The same people who tell you not to resort to stereotypes are often stereotypes.

High school gpa is a meaningless number in a landscape where you can’t fail a black because it’s racist.

In an unsurprising turn of events, Black Americans have started a trend called the “Austin Bop”, where they dance to a song made about Austin Metcalf’s death while reenacting the stabbing that claimed his life. (Link/Archive)

I generally try to be a pretty objective person and judge others on a individual basis but my nigger fatigue levels are at an all time high and I genuinely just want TND at this point.

The further away from white/East-Asian you go, the less means the number.

A white or Japanese student with a 4.0 GPA has probably not missed a single test question since first grade, while a nigger with a 4.0 might be able to spell his own name, if he's highly motivated on the day of the test, and he's allowed three guesses of which the first two don't count.

Moving the body and dumping it near a creek made Criner's case less than a 1:1 comparison. If Anthony had done that he'd be 100% fucked since the laws have changed that moving a dead body is now a felony which means now he's on the hook for felony murder, which means he could've been eligible for the death penalty.
He also raped the girl before killing her.
Unfortunately, their overpopulation in our society is an indicator that they don’t seem to know how to use them.

Obama made the pill free and basically everyone is giving out Plan B for free. Maybe they should take the hint.
Black women sometimes use birth control. Black men basically never use condoms.

Multiculturalism was DOA and has only been kept "alive" through artificial means since it's inception. Like a baby born brain dead and put on life support right out of the womb.
‘Multiculturalism’ is a Marxist concept (class unity supplanting ethnic, racial, nationalistic or cultural unity) intended to place the working class in the societal driver’s seat and make wars ‘impossible’. Remember that nationalism was seen as the driver of colonialism and international war at the time Marx was writing Das Kapital, and therefore had to be destroyed in order for the working class utopia to emerge. Happy workers from every culture united by their class consciousness and no longer dying in the thousands in nationalistic wars; nice theory.

The modern implementation drops the whole ‘class solidarity’ part because the Marxists pushing on the west are enormously wealthy and powerful (and make a fuckton of money from it) and the very last thing they want is the peons rising against them. They spiked the Occupy movement for a reason.

So this leads once again to the same ethnic, racial, nationalistic or cultural friction that drove the wars of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Except instead of it being between nations and states, it is now taking place within those nations and states. And it’s inevitable that violent conflict will emerge as a result.

We might debate whether or not including ‘class solidarity’ would delay or defuse conflict. I doubt it would do much because we still have the problem of too few resources and too few productive people, and the productive being over-taxed and over-regulated while the nonproductive are free to run untaxed cash-in-hand side hustles and defraud shady government funded ‘programs’.

The fact that many western governments are responding to this internecine friction by clamping down on basic freedoms, normally purely of the ‘legacy’ citizens, shows how ignorant they are of the consequences of their policies. But then again, they’re the ones getting rich by degrading wages and destroying standards.

TL;DR- multiculturalism in its current form provokes conflict within the state, which used to occur between states, because the basic fact of the matter is that not all cultures are compatible.

Black American ‘culture’ has set out, over the last seventy years, to be as incompatible as possible with mainstream European-American culture. This is due to the post-WW2 educational milieu focusing on amplifying or even inventing grievance within the black community as a necessary precursor to the Marxist takeover.

It is this culture of victimhood and violence that leads to people like Karmelo stabbing Austin to death. Not because of ‘rain’ (one of the witnesses confirmed it wasn’t raining at the time of the stabbing), not because of location. Purely because Karmelo was raised since birth with a victimhood mindset, in which even a reasonable request from a white person was to be seen as an inexcusable affront to his status and dignity.

Cultures forced together which are incompatible will inevitably turn to violence. This is as unavoidable as tides and seasons. There will be race wars. There will be pogroms and genocides. The only question is how long until they start, what will light the fuse, and eventually, who will win.

100% they aren't going to be driving 3 and a half hours to see him then.

Would be amusing if in 35 years from now he's some born-again ex-con who achieved inner peace while his family is still shitting things up.

He also raped the girl before killing her.
Yup, that'd do it in getting life imprisonment. I still think a pre-meditated assault ranking below a "robbery gone bad" sucks though.

They scrapped Common Core because no one got any better. As always the cowardly libtard leaders quietly kill the things that don’t work rather than taking accountability.

Rather than admit that blacks are actually dumber than they were before the equity craze began, libtard “scholars” would rather dumb down education so everyone is dumber, allowing them to stay in power.

On one hand, the wholesome whites have the resources to fill in the gaps. On the other hand they’ve been co-opted into the black victimhood narrative because they’re just less retarded, not intelligent.

I remember nearly a decade ago arguing with my a woman I know about common core. She used to be an elementary teacher. Before I really knew what common core was: dumb libshit math created because of white privilege. I remember asking her "why?" Like, why are we jumping through extra hoops to teach math, what exactly does this do. Her answer was "it's just a different way of teaching math." Yeah but why is that better? No response, it's just different and different is better, apparently. She doesn't teach anymore but she is still like this. Doing fundraisers for dumb libshit stuff. The last one was a program to teach women who struggled financially some "real life skills." It was just some workshop thing where they wear hard hats with their pronouns on them and are taught how to use basic power tools. Obviously just a way for a "non profit" to make some profit.. It's all so insufferable.
