Some years ago, I became acquainted with this one attorney in private practice in my state who was a friend of a friend of a friend, and generally disliked for his obnoxious personality and nouveau-riche behavior in person (he'd presumably had some degree of success in his practice). He ended up being disbarred not too long thereafter for misappropriation of client funds – he had won a lawsuit by an out-of-state client, then refused to remit their damages to them afterwards, after he had already arbitrarily upped his share of the winnings beyond their original agreement. The client ended up having to hire another in-state attorney to bring suit against him to recover.
So, on the one hand, he was a legitimate asshole who just didn't give a fuck, and yet, on the other hand, simultaneously retarded enough not to predict the very predictable outcome of his conduct, the sort of outcome even the dimmest attorney would see coming a mile away.
That's Ron. Ron is trying to wiggle out of paying for the accountant's hours, after offering to do so, contesting the invoice, after straight up refusing to pay for the full amount.
The court explicitly says it is not ordering sanctions now, obviously expecting Ron to not be a Wigger and stand in for the damages caused, and that if they could not handle it Remy could "make the application". Nowhere does it say the application is for cost, imho this references sanctions, and since Ron did not pay up, the application for sanctions was made.
