I was doing some DIY plumbing last weekend and it reminded me of a time 20 years ago when I was in an apartment. One night, a bunch of water started coming in through the ceiling, so I called the maintenance department who sent a guy out to fix it. He went on a mini rant about how it was probably because there were Indians above me too stupid to know how to use a shower curtain, and said this had happened a few times. My parents taught me to not be racist, and so I assumed that this guy was both wrong and a stupid bigot. Fast forward to now and I still think he's wrong, but because Indians are too stupid to understand the benefits of showering, let alone how to operate one or why a curtain is important. It's amazing how almost 2 decades of my upbringing were wiped out by just a couple IRL interactions, which led me to start looking into things a bit more, and now I'm an A&H poster. FFS man.
