A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I agree with you, I like my parents, and my grandparents. My grandad worked since he was 14 digging ditches in the rain and my nan was a nurse. The state pension is something I think they deserve, but I can also understand why people are pissed off and angry. Because we're sort of in a financial pickle at the moment, and in terms of ladders, it's been pulled up and set on fire and shredded - I do feel kind of bad even saying this though since I have a great job and can get a house lmao - so people are largely inclined to not really care? I think that there should be a great chain of growth and national interest where the older generation helps the younger and in turn are helped, but that chains been broken. Someone has to foot the bill. Right now it's The Youngs; because The Olds actually get off their arses and vote for things.
State pension systems across the Western World are a gigantic yawning financial black hole that cannot feasibly be satiated. One average person's contributions to the pension system while they work cannot cover one senior's pension. You need multiple people contributing to cover the cost of one state pension, which requires constant population growth - that means you either need a high birth rate (ours is fucking abysmal) or you need to import massive amounts of new workers (this doesn't work because they all work cash-in-hand or go on benefits). This also doesn't factor in all the dole-scroungers who just claim Pension Credit instead and effectively get a pension despite having never worked and never contributed at all.

The funny part? We're not even remotely close to being the worst off in this regard; we only spend around 12% of our budget on pensions, but the US spends around 18% of their state budget on pensions, France spends just under 23%, and Italy spends nearly 29%. Don't worry though, it's only going to get worse as the population gets older and older, and the younger population works less and less out of a mixture of there being no good jobs and the countless NEET spackers claiming "muh anxiety/depression/ADHD" to get their PIP disability tugboat.

I think what a lot of us here are ignoring about SpaceX is the 'cool' factor above all.

While it's safer and more stable to just put everything in a boring mutual fund, there is something cool about having shares in SPACE EXPLORATION. The pull of being the guy with Apple or Microsoft stocks isn't really that interesting anymore as everyone and their mother can buy a few of them. I fully expect people to treat their SpaceX stocks like a framed picture on their wall more than anything, it doesn't matter if it makes money or not as long as they can tell their friends "I have invested in SPACE".

And yes, I'm kicking myself for not buying in to SpaceX even if it was to just sell today for 30% profit, but every day is a brand new day and having the weekend to mull things over might lead to a very interesting Monday for SpaceX.
I can make this less cool for you, if you like.

SpaceX provides significant artificial intelligence exposure through its recent acquisition of xAI and its massive infrastructure partnerships with cloud hyperscalers. The company's valuation relies heavily on its shift from purely aerospace and broadband into becoming an end-to-end AI and compute-provider.

  • Acquisition of xAI: SpaceX officially acquired Elon Musk's xAI (creator of the Grok AI models), absorbing its data centers and infrastructure.
  • Massive Compute Leasing: SpaceX’s AI division leases capacity from its two massive "Colossus" datacenters.
    • Anthropic: Leases all of the Colossus computing facility for training Claude models, paying SpaceX a US$1.25 billion monthly fee through May 2029.
    • Google: Google plans to lease AI compute capacity from SpaceX at US$920 million per month.
  • Orbital Computing: In its investor prospectus, SpaceX touted ambitious plans to pioneer "orbital AI compute," using next-generation Starlink satellites to host data center operations in space powered entirely by solar energy.
So whilst I get the whole "I bought shares in the Millennium Falcon / Tardis / Enterprise" - we're going to Mars !

A lot of this is about AI. This is Musk's shot at building solar panels in space to power the computing required for AI.
It is interesting that Google and Anthropic are leasing from the company. All three of these are vying in the AI market. I think each of them have an edge in one aspect ( power, computing capacity , programming ) so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Word on the street is not only are Anthropic listing, but they are also going to announce something ground breaking in the next week or so ( now how would you get exposure to that ? )

I pay for a private pension, because my NI contributions, which I have no choice on paying, will be going into the ether and there will be no state pension for me. I pay tax which goes to the NHS and I can't access a dentist or my GP so I also pay for private medical and dental which I am also taxed on

You bet I'm fucking resentful of people who have never worked, ever, getting a state pension and pension credit.

I think the theory is that the generation before you gave you life, fought in wars to defend our nation, built the infrastructure and contributed to the wealth of the nation before you
They didn't though, the average pensioner is 65, that means they were born around 1961, what brave war did they valiantly fight in to defend Britain (and don't be a pedantic twat and say the Falklands, around 26k fought in that and they were mostly already in the army)

I honestly don't give a fuck about your precious parents and how they "did things the right way" the average pensioner was better off than a working 18-25 year old was at their age by a country mile and still the government decides to spend 10% of all public spending on them. Isn't that insane? And if your solution to that is to just "work harder" and "not be jealous of those who have more than you" then you have clearly been fed too much boomer propaganda and don't know how shit the job market is at the moment for people just coming into it.

The good times are over, The NI contributions of current workers can't sustain the enormous amount of pension payments boomers are "entitled to". 76% of Pensioners own their house, sell that and downsize, they've been telling young people to be more frugal, to spend less on "avocado toast" because they're out of touch dinosaurs, they should take their own advice and take some responsibility for themselves and their financial situation. Yeah it's shit that the system they paid into their entire working life let them down but shit happens. Older generations should be more considerate of the younger ones, they aren't doing that, they keep voting for politicians that promise more locks on their pensions and that by necessity leads to more immigration to keep the scam going. Pensioners can't be anti-immigration bulwarks while voting for policies that ensure a constant flow of foreign unskilled workers.

The entire history of your government is a conspiracy against "itself" (the native people). From deep in the wreckage of your nation you cry out for punishment of the few white citizens who innocently benefit from the system (pensioners, cripples, etc).
Ah yes, everything the ruling class of the British isles has ever done has been a conspiracy to destroy the British people, everything from the unification of the seven Saxon Kingdoms to form England to The Malay Emergency was in spite of the British people and not for their express benefit. You're retarded. Pensioners don't get so much money because they "paid into it" and are entitled to it, it is a bribe from prospective governments to pay for them, and it fucking works. Pensioners are by far the most effective voting block and no party will touch pensions because it's political suicide.

Americans who are currently stuck in the middle class but "want to get their money up" should look into smuggling rifles and drone bombs into Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Thanks Mr. Smith! I'll get right on that. Is there a place I can scan all the fully semi-automatic death cannons I plan to export to the UK? You know, for shipment tracking.

You think I post anything on here other than for laughs and reactions?
you're doing the retarded leftist schtick. You made a retarded post, I argued the points in that post then you say "Haha are you really trying to debate me on the points I made in good faith? Don't you know I actually don't care about anything and it's all irony?"

You're right. I should punish my Tony Blaire voodoo doll some more.

Gonna have to admit I thought that was a tranny.

I'm sorry but when did the forum dedicated to the autistic manchild rapist suddenly turn into the right wing hugbox for crypto-fascists and schizophrenics?
I missed the memo

Back in the 80s and early 90s it was a common cause of shame on tv about the uk not paying pensioners as much as other European countries.
It’s a shame that same propaganda is still so effective that now people are ashamed of pensioners actually existing and can’t imagine a strong economy to support them.

I remember those times as well when the papers were going on about how Britain needed immigrants because they "did the jobs Brits didn't want to do". Yes, British legacy media is full of traitors and hacks, congrats on joining the rest of us.

Sure is! And don't you forget it, faggot!

Jailed for a total of 20 years for doing nothing of value award

The average pensioner is 65 ?!!!!!

The UK State Pension age is currently 66 for both men and women, but it is gradually increasing to 67 for those born on or after April 6, 1960.

You must be the dumbest motherfucker in the world. Did you dress yourself this morning on your own ?

Perhaps you should post less and actually consider making a contribution when you do post, rather than shitting up the thread with your retarded shit.

Whenever anyone brings up Jews to those migration debates it's 100% trying to divert the topics to reduce heat from Muslims and Pakis/Jeets. This is especially retarded as if one person from 30 years ago somehow had a real impact across decades of political parties.
