FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.

Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

If Karmelo stabbed another black kid, black people wouldn't of given two shits. It's only because he's going to jail for killing a white person, they have to chimp out because they have to get one over whitey. These same people could would a black person stomp a black child to death and they'd just shrug their shoulders and put it down to Nigga Shit.

Most of them would say nothing.

The grifters would blame racism.

No one weaponizes victimhood more than blacks do.

They really need to start getting their own community in line because no one outside of the grifters and the low IQs buys it.

17.5 years in prison Minimum is no joke. HYou might argue "he will be 36 when he's out" but at the same time he has to relearn his entire life if that is even possible. And if he screws up in Prison he will stay longer.
I think I'd be a lot happier if it was life with possibility of parole after 20. I think capping it at 35 is basically pointless and a political move. It gives the kid a ton of time in prison while trying to make it seem lenient to Karmelo supporters......and yet accomplishes neither.

Honestly, I'm just happy they didn't let him off with a slap on the wrist for outright murder. But let's all be real, I doubt he's getting out. He's got no self control so he's going to pull some stupid shit in prison like assault that will see him back in court with more charges. And even if he some how avoids extending his stay by an extra decade? If I'm in a neo Nazi gang? Im doing 35 to life and I want some serious credentials among the other skin heads? Gonna be hard to find a better target than a celebrity black guy that killed a completely innocent white kid. No matter what in fighting is going on in the neo Nazi circles, you'll always be able to toss that one around for pats on the back

Dude will guarantee blow his 20s in prison.
Dude will also blow most of his 30s in prison.

Given the shit food there in combination with bad black genetics, how many years does he have left?

Unfortunately Karmelo’s detractors are a bunch of racist cucks who will never side with a black person over a white person because it’s a grift and because they don’t really care what happens with race relations.
I'm confused as to what you mean. Is there a reason people should side with karmelo here?

I wonder why this is the case since I assumed it takes time to even get through the parole board and if you are extra good you end up getting let out the first time. Although considering the circumstances his own “brothers” are probably going to make him do all the dirty work at minimum for being so short and young. Always happens with the new ones.
It because if the guy reoffends while on parole, people get pissed at the guys that let him out. And if you let him through the first time people will claim you just rubber stamped him through, even if the guys was squeaky clean on paper and parole was the right call the first time. You deny it the first time, let him out the second, and he reoffends, gets harder to claim you didn't do your job. You can say, "We put a lot of thought into it and payed attention to his case. Look, we even denied him the first time. Can you really claim we just rubber stamp releases when we have a history of denying parole to people, and in particular this guy?"

They really need to start getting their own community in line because no one outside of the grifters and the low IQs buys it.
No, no, no. It's always white people that need to do better. Why, if the white kid didn't act a fool, Karmelo wouldn't have had to premeditate bringing back a knife and stabbing him an excessive amount of times.

It's always the white people's fault!

In all seriousness, the concept of "could you blame them?" for any minority being able to act however they want, up to and including brutal (and let's not mince words, this was an absolutely brutal) murder? I've been listening to this shit for well over a decade and I've got no sympathy whatsoever, and I swear to Christ, I want to be better than this, but "black fatigue" justifies the fuck out of itself when you start hearing from the black community how it feels about Karmelo and his bullshit.

It’s insane but literally every fact here is wrong as far as I can see.
-Crossed state lines and was supplied with a rifle.
-Killed three people.
-Acquitted because it was a clear cut case of justified self defense.
It's impressive how flawlessly on point Rittenhouse's self defense case was. Every shot he fired was in a textbook self defense situation that would stand up in any state in the union.

He tried to retreat, wasn't firing wildly into the air, fired just as he was being threatened with serious bodily harm... Like there's shit juries anywhere, but even in the worst of the worst, say, Vermont, by their case law, his self defense was absolutely correct.

It says a lot about the state of things that a lot of us were worried about his trial.
Dude will guarantee blow his 20s in prison.
Dude will also blow most of his 30s in prison.

"Low quality food" being bad for your health is a meme.

Prison food is gross, but nutritionally complete by ordinary standards. You'll get your calories and your macros and enough of your micros to not develop serious complications.

People get ripped in prison. You can't do that if you're being starved or have nutiriitonal deficiencies.

I don’t know why, but when it comes to what Texas refers to as “3G” cases which means aggravated violence cases they usually deny those cases the first time they’re up. The thing to look at is the denial because the Board will list their reasons, and then a person just has to try to work on those reasons between then and the next parole hearing date. Of course, there’s no way to counter victim’s family members writing letters opposing parole. What you really want to look at is the set-off. If the Board denies but only sets the next hearing off a year, there’s a good chance the person will get parole at the next hearing. If they set-off 5 years until the next hearing, that’s a pretty strong sign the Parole Board isn’t even considering it and is only seeing you because they’re legally required to.

Yeah, life is gonna be hard for ‘Melo, but at least he’s still alive. He’ll most likely be out in 20-25
