FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.

Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

the main one raised over $600 large. The family then buys a whole bunch of shit, new house, car, toys, etc... Denies all of it, says its RAYCISM to accuse them of misappropriating funds.
They moved to the new house and leased the new cars before any funds were drawn from the GiveSendGo. GSG CEO confirmed it in an email.

Metcalf's dad actually grew a spine? Transcribed thirdhand from the fox stream

"... you failed your parents, yourself, and society. You don't belong in this community."
I guess the constant humiliation made him realize that the nogs were never going to let him live in peace. 35 years ain't bad

The Anthony family was just surrounded on the way out and we're smiling and waving to their supporters. Absolutely disgusting behavior from them.
Mom was chanting "RACISS! BIAS!!" from the car while making finger hearts.

I'm not knowledgeable about the inner workings of prisons. Do they still have those Aryan prison gangs?

They directly admit they've spent the GiveSendGo on a bunch of shit. This includes the house, note "Safe relocation" and then they list "transportation" which is literally unnecessary if you own a car, what they mean is buying a car.

I wrote a series of posts on the George Stinney case if anyone wants to read it:

The verdict is for sure an A+, but the sentence is like a C-. The thing people sometimes lose sight of in the case of Rittenhouse is that it's a travesty of justice that case was even prosecuted. It's one of the most well documented and clear cut self defense cases where the person using self defense literally does everything by the book.
To be honest, this sentence went exactly like I expected. The guy has no prior record, was reportedly a good student, and there was no evidence entered that this was racially motivated (though it's pretty obvious that this was a "I see a white person, I'm threatened with death intrinsically" moment). I was anticipating they'd give him much less than the max, but more than the lesser included manslaughter max of 20 years. So, 30-40 years. This sentence falls right in there, obviously. So I think given the current structure of the law, this is the best we could have asked for. We can debate all we want on if the current eligibility requirements for capital murder in TX is correct or if Roper v. Simmons was decided correctly, but those are totally separate issues at this point.

People in the thread saying 35 years is nothing are absolutely underestimating how much he's fucked.

Even if he gets paroled at 17.5, that's the same amount of time IN prison as his ENTIRE LIFE prior to this. He's about to live his best years in a prison cell, with no chance to get out. He is going to be doing the same monotonous drudgery for 17 years straight. He is going to be in a tiny gray common area with a bunch of other violent offenders, because he won't generally be housed with non-violent offenders due to his conviction. He will not have anyone who is giving him commissary money, meaning nothing but the few meals he gets, and if he ends up having to pay any kind of restitution, such as the potential 10,000 dollar fine for a First Degree Felony in Texas, he wouldn't even be able to use his nigger pennies to buy spicy ramen.

If you've never done serious, hard time, it's very difficult to know how grueling it is even for a short period. I'm blessed not to have done so, or had any close family that has, but some bad marriage choices led to people I know getting involved with people who in the past or now are in prison, and it is an ugly world.

Let it lift your spirits to know that prison and jail are not the same thing, and that his life is going to be one of the worst you can possibly have for the next 2 decades.
People are also forgetting that he’s not getting out free and clear in 17/18 years. He will be getting paroled which is a whole different type of punishment.
It’s harsher (or supposed to be) than probation and it’s essentially geared to put you back into prison. One, literally one slip up, and not only can he catch additional charges but he’ll be sent back for the remainder of his sentence.
I’m talking everything you do is monitored, you can only live in approved housing (that also means always having a legit address on file, can’t just move in with your girl and her residence has to be approved for you to be there and often subject to random searches), you cannot be even around someone else’s legal gun, you can’t hang out with any other felons, you can only work at approved places, no drugs no alcohol (usually no alcohol), if you’re caught doing any of this it’s back to prison if you’re lucky, back to prison and additional charges if you’re not.

Here is some info on what you have to do to be approved for parole, what you have to do once you’re on parole, and what happens if you violate (keeping in mind someone calling in on you may violate you, your due process is really restricted on parole).

Aaalllllll of this is irrelevant if he doesn’t keep his nose clean in prison. Wrote ups in there aren’t just paperwork, that shit can not not only take off your privileges it can add more time in the way of additional charges and roll back your Good Conduct Time“ (link for non American kiwis)

TLDR: parole is essentially designed to put you back in prison if you’re not willing to live a good clean like 100% of the time. Even a rumor can and often will fuck someone over.

imo the white suit and lack of remorse sunk him. His life is genuinely over even if he makes it out in his late 30s. He gets to be a prison slave, prison bitch, and then a minimum wage slave on the outside if he's lucky.
I don't think he is going to make it out in his late 30s.

The other blacks will soon know he has half a million of crowdfunding money to his name and they will shake him down for it.
As "the money is all gone" not being a valid excuse he will be in so many beatings and violent fights, each one adding to the sentence.

I hope he gets raped so bad he's given a colostomy bag.

I'm more disgusted in his parents than Karmelo himself. No remorse. They don't care that their son's life is effectively over. They don't seem to understand the gravity of the situation. I hope these niggers burn in Hell next to their son.

TDCJ inmate population is around 50% Black, 25% White and 25% Hispanic. ‘Melo ought to be more worried about his own race in there extorting him for all that GiveSendGo money his family is still grifting for than AB or any other group trying to take him out. He’s a 19 year old suburbanite, it’s not like he was raised in the ‘hood and knows what’s up. They’ll probably keep him in PC the first few years until all this shit has died down and folks forget his name.

TDCJ is full of niggers who killed White people. Most of them grew up more feral than him and will find him entirely unimpressive. He’ll have to get hard really fast or pay protection money.
