UK Serious stabbing incident in north Belfast

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious stabbing incident in north Belfast.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident in the Kinnaird Avenue area of the city at around 10:30pm.

Video posted to social media appears to show a male stabbing another man several times in the head with a knife.

The Belfast Telegraph understands a small Stanley type knife was recovered by police.

A large police presence remains in place with a large area of an apartment block cordoned off.

An eyewhitness to the attack told the Belfast Telegraph, “three men, one armed with a hurl, got the fella with the knife off the victim.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police in north Belfast are currently in attendance at Kinnaird Avenue following the report of a stabbing incident shortly after 10.30pm.

“A man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is in police custody while a second man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

I think it's notable how quickly the stabber's nationality was published this time - some outlets even identified him as Sudanese in the headlines, and not just explicitly right wing ones. A year or two ago the media would have had up still playing guess the race at this point. Even predditors are saying he shouldn't have been allowed in the country and pointing to crime statistics of African and muslim immigrants which also would not have been allowed up until very recently.

:optimistic: worthy? Perhaps, but it feels like a shift is happening.
 
Looking the online Irish spaces and it’s this repeating cycle where Loyalist & “Anti-WokeL Brits try start something and what few Irish right wingers there are refuse (somewhat smartly) to follow because the enemy of my enemy is an enemy. If either of them dropped the Troubles persona just for the time it takes to literally stop the murder of Christians and European neighborhoods things could be so much smoother, but because Ulster is claimed by two nations rather than one there’s this crab bucketing competition.
 

Less than an hour into tonights protests and belfast already have a tram on fire. Might be a long one, might be a nothingburger. There isn't a lot of people at least from what this chopper is showing, maybe a couple of hundred but then again they're supposedly spread about a few areas.

edit; scratch that, there are numerous protests out AND numerous fires already. One cherry-picker on fire next to some houses and a tram on fire next to a block of flats/offices in the city center. Police are out in riot vans. Several thousand people at least.

I'm going to respectfully push back on this.

Belfast may not be on the island of Great Britain, or have been part of the former Kingdom of Great Britain but it is in the United Kingdom and "Britain" is an alternative name for the UK.

Like how America is an alternative name for the USA. It's the same as describing Hawaii as being part of America.

And it's how British and American is the demonym for people from each country.

I'm sure many Irish people won't like this, but that's just how it is.

Last time anything like this happened in Saggart Dublin the police were outnumbered by about a factor of 10 and the crowd were very obviously pushing them and could easily have overpowered them. Several people on horses and shit obviously charged the police with pretty clear intent. Several gardai vans were burnt and there was a very obvious threat to burn down the migrant hotel the protest happened outside of which only didn't happen because the protestors didn't want to.

If this doesn't end up with several psni vans burnt then I will be fucking shocked.
 
All this sperging about geography doesn't change the fact the attack happened in an Irish Republican area and the victim was saved by a man named Maitu Mág Tighearnán, a name most Brits can't pronounce, and he used a hurley stick to beat the migrant which is the most Irish thing ever. This attack is absolutely relevant to Ireland and Irish people, and it's disingenuous to argue otherwise.

No its not. Great Britain refers to England, Scotland and Wales, the nations that make up the largest of the British Isles hence Great Britain. The full name is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Yes and "the UK" and "Britain" are both shortened names in the same way that "the USA" and "America" are shortened names for the United States of America.
