UK Serious stabbing incident in north Belfast

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious stabbing incident in north Belfast.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident in the Kinnaird Avenue area of the city at around 10:30pm.

Video posted to social media appears to show a male stabbing another man several times in the head with a knife.

The Belfast Telegraph understands a small Stanley type knife was recovered by police.

A large police presence remains in place with a large area of an apartment block cordoned off.

An eyewhitness to the attack told the Belfast Telegraph, “three men, one armed with a hurl, got the fella with the knife off the victim.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police in north Belfast are currently in attendance at Kinnaird Avenue following the report of a stabbing incident shortly after 10.30pm.

“A man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is in police custody while a second man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

To be fair, not all stab wounds are life-threatening. Like, getting stabbed in the hand or arm isn’t that immediately dangerous, unless you hit an artery I suppose. “Serious incident” in police terms is a bit vague but usually means serious injury, death, disasters, major traffic accidents - anything that requires lots of cars, ambulances etc. We use similar language in Australia so it seems normal to me, but you’re right it does sound a bit odd.
