The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

What timing, I've been replaying 4 lately and am about to reach Naoto's dungeon.
I figured Golden additions like Adachi's social link would make it back but I'm still surprised to see Marie.
Feels almost unreal to finally move on from P5 now that P6 is real.

Blue butterfly at like 59 seconds.

Here's hoping this isn't another SMT5 situation where they announce the game then we have another 4 years of development time, only to still wind up with something half baked until the inevitable Ultimate Edition.

Persona 5 has killed more gacha titles than actual titles in the Persona sub franchise.
It's got an impressive track record of Gacha's killed, though I'd argue the funniest is still Overwatch 2 - they dropped the 2 like, a month after that collab, so I'm counting it on a technicality.

Didint that happen with Persona 5 as well?
Persona 5 at least had a coherent story from beginning to end - you could tell when they started running out of time to flesh out some things, and I legitimately forget Haru exists sometimes because of how late she's added to your party, but it's at a finished story. While Royal added onto it, it felt less "paste in cut content" and more like an actual expanded story. Gameplay was fairly simple once you figured out what you were doing/broke the game enough, but you can at least occasionally get motherfucked if you aren't paying attention.

SMT5 meanwhile, I swear to god all the dev time went towards Demon Models and the World Design. The Story in Base game is... there, though you can be forgiven for not realizing anything in this game connects to it until 3/4 of the way through the damn game. Vengeance at least remembered to have an overarching plot, even if I once boiled it down to "your ending depends on which Waifu you simped for", but the bar from Base SMT5 was insanely low. Least they didn't fuck up the combat, where you will get motherfucked if you aren't paying attention...

I can’t even imagine myself going back to base SMTV. Personally I’m probably going to wait until the “royal” edition of 6 comes out. I really don’t like to play through the same game twice and would rather play the better version as my first time. Got plenty to play anyway.

Personally I don't give a shit about the P4 remake now that I know P6 is coming out sometime in the next 5 years (if i'm lucky!); but I'd like to touch on this because it's indicative of a trend that will absolutely continue in P6 and will absolutely assrape that game's difficulty and balancing.

There is absolutely no reason a mechanic like this should exist. I know Persona has never been a hardcore gameplay series like SMT, but come the fuck on there is a clear difference between how the older games have handled combat and how P3R and P4R (and even P5 with the baton pass shit) handle combat. Theurgies and Prime Times are practically "WIN THE FIGHT" BUTTONS and take away any tension the fights might have and unless the balancing accomadates giving you FOUR ONE MORES I have no clue how this thing is even going to be fun to play. I feel like fatlus makes these remakes for people who don't like the gameplay of Persona, which is fun mind you, and only like the life sim aspects which aren't nearly as deep as people think they are.
