Obviously, indie games have evolved in their inspiration, from 8-bit to 16-bit to the current PSX craze. This is partly because technology has improved, but also because new generations have grown up and become nostalgic for that style of game.

I'm not sure if the indie scene is gonna parasite on Dreamcast/PS2 nostalgia, however, since even experimental shit on there doesn't look quite as aesthetic and easily reproducible. The PS1/generic indie 3D is probably the ceiling, as far as I can tell.
