Just rewatched forrest gump and it was still amazing!

90s-2000s was a golden age. Even mid tier movies back then would be god tier now. Rewatching forrest gump after so long was great! I forgot how entertaining and engaging older movies was.
 
Try watching the movie that Zemeckis made before Forrest Gump, Death Becomes Her.
It's a very stylish fantasy comedy and it has my favorite Bruce Willis performance, he actually shows off his acting skills in it.
 
Once you realize the nihilistic, "we are just leaves floating on the wind and all human effort is meaningless because things just happen" themes in Forrest Gump, it becomes hard to enjoy it. Boomers will die on the hill that of Forrest Gump being the greatest movie of all time though, because "that was our generation"
 
Forrest Gump should have been directed by Tommy Wiseau. It's the "I'm ready to settle down now" meme fleshed out with tens of millions of dollars, to the point that people the world over applauded a whore with AIDS only throwing her mentally retarded simp a pity fuck once he was a millionaire - as though it was actually the love story the mawkish score wants you to think it is.

I laughed when he buried Jenny in the yard like the dog she was. And it's a happy ending; because the single worst influence in the man's life is dead and buried where she can't harm their son the way she did the village idiot (ignoring the distinct possibility that Forrest and/or Forrest may be living with HIV passed on from the harlot, in addition to likely not even being biologically related).

Gary Sinise is terrific.

That’s exactly my sentiment. Jenny was fucking horrible and that movie in any way being seen as a love story is awful.

Also in the book isn’t Gump a large black man?

He also abandons Jenny and his son to live with his Orangutan life partner he met when they were both astronauts captured by the New Guinea cannibals he taught to play chess. Perhaps the latest adaptation is more faithful to the source material?
 
Forrest Gump would have been a far better movie if it had been a closer adaptation of the source novel.

The book was way wilder, way raunchier and Bubba was a racist white guy.

Very. The plot is basic as fuck, but that works to its advantage since Hanks' role in it is to be someone who through his good nature makes the best out of a shitty situation he has little control over and helping people along the way. Also it has some pretty funny scenes.

This just paints her in a worse light because it means she’s willing to throw away conviction once said retard has a lot of money.
 
Jenny ranks up there with Grandpa Joe as being one of the worst fictional characters with AIDS. The viewer is expected to regard her as sympathetic due to implications of molestation, when it's insultingly obvious that she's cynically made out to be a victim for the sake of excusing every subsequent, overtly selfish act she spends the rest of the story perpetrating so that it's ensured she and Forrest can only be together in the final act. That the pure and virtuous 'tard protagonist is held to higher standards of conduct than the woman gives the impression that being a woman is regarded by the film as being the bigger handicap; with Jenny meant to be held to sub-retard expectations of deportment and morality.

That the audience is expected to pity and forgive Jenny just because the generous-to-a-fault retard does is what makes her one of the most weirdly misogynistic fictional characters ever conceived - Literally every callous and immoral act she's depicted committing is presented to the audience as a whoopsie-daisy to be overlooked in the course of absolving her of human agency and relegating her to some cosmic prize owed to Forrest for all his good deeds and blue balls. We're also expected to believe that Jenny the Liar is suddenly reformed enough to be 100% truthful about the circumstances of Forrest's surprise son and her terminal illness.

It's always fascinated me how many viewers of that film are blind to what a shitty person Jenny is, simply because the film doesn't get them to the point of regarding her as a person. Her function as a macguffin reduces everything about the character to being literally a retard's version of the manic pixie dream girl to hang his hopes and dreams on. She certainly serves to distract from what a one-dimensional, chocolate-fixated whore Forrest's mother was.

I haven't seen this since I was quite small, I didn't understand any of the AIDs stuff or, really, anything that was happening. It was a movie about Tom Hanks playing a spacker who meets the pope and starts a fishing company, or something. Worth revisiting with older eyes?

I liked it when Ozzy told him to fuck off though.
