It's cute, fluffy nonsense. I'm glad Corbin Bernsen got the paychecks.

I always insult Dexter (in its original run) by saying it's shot like an episode of Psych.

I think all these shows are kinda generic, and what carries them are the leads
I think that is what made them work.

You could put Monk, Spencer, Weston and Neil all in the exact same puzzle and they would find 4 different ways to solve it.

USA had a whole run of fun light shows for awhile there. Monk and Burn Notice were already mentioned, but there were also Suits and White Collar. All of which are worth at least experiencing.
I want to add Chuck and Castle to this list.

Fuck Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy, the Dramady with a monster of the week and a light seasonal story arc were the true kings.

This thread was a great idea, I keep getting new ideas for future binges of similar shows. I remember liking Life as well. It's the same formula pretty much.

I like that too, now that I am a working adult I don't have time to follow heavy plot arcs.

Castle was great until new writers took over in season six and Fillion became a diva on set and ruined the chemistry.

A similar show from the 80s I love is Remington Steele, it is my favorite Pierce Brosman ever did and they even had Tom Baker in an episode.

I watched the show as it was coming out. I really liked the first few seasons, but somewhere in season 3 I began to lose interest and dropped it by season 5. I can't really describe it, but it just feels different after the high school reunion episode and I can never get into it. I've tried to watch the series a few times since it ended and I still like up to the high school reunion and then I slowly stop watching.

Thanks to this I am rewatching the show and having a blast.

I forgot I owned this book! 1000024206.jpg.webp

I actually choked on my drink seeing this thread pop up because my fiancé is making me watch this show in our free time and it’s pretty fun. Is it corny and cheesy at times? Absolutely, but it’s nice to turn my brain off and unwind and laugh at the occasional joke or point out the hidden pineapple in the show. It makes me miss the era of television where everything was good fun. I think I’m on the first few episodes of the 5th season by now, but it’s just very weird to see the sudden resurgence of it online when we just started watching it. Especially on here.

I thought the last few seasons were pretty weak, but when isn't that the case in a procedural. I think my favorite joke was the in the Gus got married episode, where Shawn refuses to pronounce Jaan correctly.
I found White Collar interesting as Peter and Neil have a father-son dynamic, which you don't get in many procedurals. Normally they are all Female Cop, Male Novelty, with romantic sub-plot. Also it had some amazing product placement scenes.

I forgot that happened, man I remember in the before times before Woke DEI bullshit made me hate every non-white male character.

Snarky Black Lady works when Asshole Criminal insults her driving as they chase a suspect.

There aren't many shows like these nowadays (psych, monk, burn notice, early suits, royal pains, person of interest, chuck, fringe) Hollywood became so retarded that they need a whole season to tell a single story and the the sitcom week in the life formula was gone. Monster of week was gone too. Could be why that clunky cw arrow verse worked for a bit, but those had a Saturday morning cartoon vibe which is the same.

USA at that time was truly something. Every show was a guilty pleasure. I miss those days. What's there nowadays?
