I expect more conservatives to turn out for 2026 voting than dems, because the dems are weak and hated right now.
This may be a Check Your Local Listings experience. My part of Kiwi Land has upcoming ballot proposals that usually draw out Democrats to vote in favor. One hopes the Republicans and Independents who don't want the proposals passing come out and vote against them and vote for their candidates of choice in the other elections. It sucks when presidential elections garnering just over 50% turnout is seen as "high participation" and all other elections get well below that on good days.
It seems like the left has abandoned them and only care about illegals if they're Somalian, Chinese, Indian or South American.
The media seems to latch on whatever the immigrant nationality of choice is in its coverage area and ignores anyone else. I've seen areas with a lot of Mexican illegals see them be championed by local media whereas Somalians are put on a pedestal in Minnesota, etc. With midterms, it seems as if the media is already working overtime to drum up support for the blue candidates and illegal aliens most familiar to the local voters.
We (culturally) need to push back harder against genuinely fucking evil, nasty, cruel, mean-spirited hate-filled behavior like that.
Too many people now have type A personalities and they're too competitive for their own good. Sports rivalries have become bitter and hateful and it's spilled over into other social areas - politics being the most apparent with vitriol and hate for political opponents being nasty beyond description.
What also sucks is when one side says they shouldn't have to do the right thing or take the high ground because the other side hasn't in the near or distant past. Nobody wants to take the first step towards civility; they'd rather burn bridges than build them.
Anything under 10 thousand, the casino doesn't report it to them.
They made it 600 bucks under Biden
Even Pre-Biden, my professional experience saw people receiving Form W-2G (for gambling winnings) for amounts well under $10k from casinos even if taxes weren't withheld. I also believe that casinos will generate a W-2G for any winning amount if income tax at any level - federal, state, or local - has been withheld. the thing to remember is the government also receives copies of income reporting forms and expects to see those amounts on the respective income tax return.
Not to mention the IRS also added something nuts, like 30k+ new employees to investigate tax fraud. Something tells me they won't be knocking on disproportionately millionaires' doors, either. The petty fucks would rather crush ten thousand small-time tax dodgers than dare piss off a Scientology or a Koch Brother.
Now, especially post-covid, examinations (commonly referred to as audits) are conducted online with secure uploads and communication. In-person audits at either a client site or an IRS office office aren't as frequent unless they're absolutely necessary for whatever reason.
The outcome of an examination can depend on all sorts of factors including the mood of whomever is doing the examination. Anyone who goes into an examination without competent representation, though, is only increasing the likelihood of an unfavorable outcome. This would give credence to the idea the little guy doesn't stand a chance. Half the battle is keeping solid documentation of the figures that get reported on one's tax return.
DOJ investigating over 30 Illinois school districts for guiding kids to become transgender behind their parents’ back
It's amazing how times change. When I was younger, I recall a high school coach getting into trouble over giving players vitamin C during flu season to keep them healthy - the reason being improper dispensation of medicine. Now, schools can actively aid and abet teens in obtaining titty skittles and bathtub gin hormones with impunity and nobody bats an eye ... and those who do are often silenced into submission.
