The hantavirus is a nothing burger in terms of causing a potential epidemic, let alone a pandemic. On a cruise ship, like it was, it's a great environment to spread due to flue like symptoms and tons of unavoidable close contact. Out in the wild not so much. It can't lay dormant long and untreated(unlike COVID) it's lethality is way too high to spread effectively. Now, it's not ebola levels of lethal if untreated but it has problems spreading outside of a closed environment for the same reasons. This is the same as all the post COVID "potential new COVIDs" the media loves to yell about because they are desperate for clicks and engagement.

Congo has an Ebola outbreak every couple of years. Ebola is also difficult to transmit and is defeated by basic hygiene and sanitation methods used by most countries of the world as a default. It's why Ebola never manages to get very far outside of mud huts and shack communities where people shit and piss in the corners of their home and then play in it before eating a meal of dirt and rice with their fucking hands.

This makes a ton of sense when you understand how culturally popular and chic the burger is in Japan (same story with South Korea). The YouTube Channel "Asian Boss" has a really interesting video covering burgers in South Korea. A lot of it has to do with the reconstruction in both countries coming out of WW2 and the Korean war respectively. Honestly, the burger being a cultural representation of America for Asians is fucking based.
