My response would be how do you know how well that subway system will be without letting the people raise concerns to public officials?
Now the entire leftist philosophical foundation is collapsing in Europe, because it is ultimately all based on egalitarianism, which is a very lazy and deeply flawed moral foundation. Not only that but what good is that kind of material success if what it cost is the freedom of the people within the country. When we have a system that is already corrupted into crony capitalism, turning that into an authoritarian state is going to be a nightmare. We have already corroded away a lot of the protections we should have had. The patriot act should have never passed, the many laws doing similar things should have never been passed. Keeping the CIA as an indefinite part of the power structure of the country never should have happened. We should have never handed that amount of power to unelected, essentially unaccountable men with VERY questionable goals, and an a "flexible" sense of morality (look into what they look for in people they hire) .
I have no doubt if we move closer to an authoritarian state like China the abuse of power will be devastating. You can look at what they've done with the authority they already have.
And it comes back to what are we getting for it, and what is the cost? I personally would rather not give away personal freedom, and liberty to make the governments ability to act "more efficient".
This is actually the main thing I disagree with people like Fuentes about. He and people like him are believers in the great men of history thing, and a strong federal government that is able to make giant sweeping changes with minimal blockages. And my problem is absolute power corrupts absolutely. And an unchecked executive power is a ticking time bomb. Its a matter of when not if, it will become a humanitarian nightmare. And I have a feeling with how the country already runs it would be very quick.
